Page 1Talemetry@Work:University of California,Irvine Medical CenterThe ClientThe University of California, Irvine Medical Center (UCI) is a world-classacademic medical center and the only university hospital in Orange County.and general-care services, including a regional burn center, Level I TraumaCenter, neuropsychiatric center, Level III neonatal care unit and a NationalCancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center.The ChallengeDespite an extremely complex and resource intensive implementation of anenterprise ATS, a project which ultimately took approximately 18 months,UCI still faced a number of challenges for attracting and engaging top talentattracting the right talent – and building a sustainable talent pipeline for theLimited Exposure of JobsWhen opening or posting a new requisition online to their ATS’ candidatecandidates to provide login credentials before being able to view or applyfor open positions. This sign-on requirement created severe limitationsfor exposing open positions to top active and passive talent, creating two1. Incomplete Indexing: External search engines like Google and Bing wereunable to index the candidate portal, meaning that UCI’s jobs wereaggregator sites like SimplyHired, Indeed and Beyond.com were unableto scrape UCI’s jobs, severely limiting their online exposure.2. Restricted Referrals: Due to the login requirements of the ATS’candidate portal, links to active jobs could not be easily shared eitherwould redirect visitors not to the intended job posting, but rather, thelogin page. Page 2Talemetry@Work:Limited Employer Branding OptionsWith its location in Orange County, UCI faces an incredibly competitive talent market, contending with majorprivate sector employers like the Walt Disney Company, Allergan, Boeing and CKE International as well as publicsector employers such as the Orange County government (the county’s top employer), the Federal Government(approximately 12k employees in Orange County), Chapman University and the California State University, Fullerton.This competition requires UCI to position itself as an employer of choice for Orange County and the larger Southernportals and adding relevant, engaging content to support its branding initiatives. This limited UCI’s ability to showcasePoor Candidate Experienceby the tedious, often frustrating process of applying for jobs on the UCI website. Search results were often incorrect,leading many candidates to abandon their search without submitting an application, or providing the informationrequired for creating a sustainable talent pipeline.completing and successfully submitting online applications.
