  • The Woodpecker

    1. 1. The Woodpecker By Caitlyn Lambe!
    2. 2. ContentsMy First ReadingSound DevicesSecond ReadingType of poemLiteral SenseWhat the poem says about the subjectFigurative DevicesOverall Summary
    3. 3. My First ReadingMy first reaction to the poem was that the tiny woodpecker had made himself a home in the telephone pole, and was watching as the weather went by. I felt sorry that the woodpecker didnt have any family in the pole with him.
    4. 4. Sound DevicesThe poem uses rhyming e.g hole-pole, head-redRepetition e.g big, big wheelsAdjectives e.g sparkles, streams,big, snuggles.Rhythm e.g throughout the poem
    5. 5. I think the poem is trying to say....I think the poem is trying to talkabout how the woodpecker madehis own home, and throw the day passes.
    6. 6. Type of poem I think that this poem is just a freeflow poem because I cant recognize any type of poetry that we have learnt about in this poem.
    7. 7. Literal SenseI think that the literal sense in this poem is basically talking about a woodpeckers life.
    8. 8. What does the poem say about the subjectThe poem says that the woodpeckeris red, and looks like it is wearing a hood and a collar.
    9. 9. Figurative Devices This author uses personification, because it says that the woodpecker is wearing a hood and collar of red.
    10. 10. Overall SummaryOverall, I thought that the poemwas perfectly written, as I wouldnot change anything. I liked how they chose a simple subject (woodpecker), and talked about its life (making a home).
    11. 11. The Bird and the Bee I once saw a little bird Sitting in a tree He was eating lemon curd And was accompanied by a bee I thought he was a nerd Because he was a referee His friend was very furred And he kept staring at the seaI told my best friend about the bee and the bird But she just said "Sure" very sarcastically
