What is coral<br />A living structure made of groups of organisms called polyps <br />symbiotic relationship with a Zooxanthellae that lives in their tissue<br />Polyps build skeletons limestone<br />Photosyntesis is done by Zooxanthellae<br />photosynthesis produces oxygen for the coral to breed and creates the proper conditions for the skeleton to form <br />
  3. 3. Coral In Barbados<br />surrounded by a narrow 200 m deep shelf, 2-3 km<br />3 types of coral reef around Barbados: Bank Reefs, Fringing Reefs and Patch Reefs.<br />The area covered by bank reefs is over 38.3 km , while the fringing reefs cover 20.4 km.<br />

What's being done<br /> Folkestone Marine Park and reserve was made to protect the coral<br />The park and reserve are located on the west coast of Barbados.<br /> The reserve is 2.2 kilometres and is 950 metres at its widest point and 660 metres at the narrowest<br />The reserve consists of four zones:<br />scientific zone<br />northern and southern zones<br />recreational zone<br />
