This document provides a cloud spotting guide that lists common cloud types and their typical altitudes. Cirrus, cirrocumulus, and cirrostratus clouds typically form highest in the sky between 8,400-7,800 meters. Middle level clouds like altostratus and altocumulus generally occur between 5,250-4,975 meters, while lower clouds such as cumulus, stratus and nimbostratus usually form below 2,700 meters.
