  2. 2. American Indian Day Information The second Monday in October marks Columbus Day and American Indian Day. Not all states celebrate American Indian Day. They may celebrate Columbus Day instead. Other states call it Native American Day or Indigenous People Day like they do in South Dakota and Berkeley , California.

  4. 4. Facts On American Indian Day Indians celebrate by having pow -wows. A Pow- wow is a gathering of North America’s Native people where they meet to dance ,sing ,and honor American Indian culture .
  5. 5.  In 1989 South Dakota passed legislature to proclaim 1990 the “year of Reconciliation “for Native Americans and to change Columbus Day to Native American Day .
