Before and after his birth

there were signs that the child would be important. His

Mother dreamt of an

elephant carrying a

lotus flower, for

instance. Wise men

foretold the live

that Siddhartha

would lead as

the Buddha.

 3. 3. Life of Buddha: Birth.

The king was concerned about this prophesy.

Therefore Siddhartha’s father decided that he

should be raised

in luxury and

sheltered from

lives realities,

like illness, old

age, and

mortality.

 4. 4. The life of Buddha: the child.

Siddhartha had a special way with animals. One day his

cousin shot a swan whilst hunting. Siddhartha calmed and

treated the swan. His cousin was angry but Wise Men

decided the Swan

was Siddhartha’s

as he had saved it.

He

encountered

a Holy Man,

whose humble

way of live

impressed him.

 8. 8. Life of Buddha: The Great Renunciation.

So Prince Siddhartha abandoned his high

station and embarked on a life as a ‘seeker

after truth.’

He became

known as

plain

Gotama.

 9. 9. Life of Buddha: Becoming a Sage.

Gotama made many visits

to Holy people, and

lived a life of hardship for

seven years. He became

known as Sakyamuni,

the Sage of Sakya’s.

 10. 10. Life of Buddha: The awakening.

Gotama realized that a harsh

life was not working. Eventually

he decided to follow the ‘middle

path’ neither taking too little or

too much. Then one day when

sitting under a Bodhi Tree

Gotama realized he was

undergoing profound change,

he was awakening.

 11. 11. Life of Buddha: Nirvana.

Gotama became known as Buddha and was said

to have reached Nirvana, when desire is

eliminated through

abandonment of

desires.
