A light helm,steady motion,a good turn of speed – I stepped
onto the dock after a sail aboard Nikita very impressed. In a
moderate breeze on Seattle’s Lake Union, she was quick, fun to
drive and conveyed the sense that she could eat up ocean miles.
It’s no surprise Nikita made the passage from New Zealand to
Seattle in only 52 days – a fast voyage for a 40-foot sailboat. The
Hallberg-Rassy 40 is constructed to the same high standards
as its proven predecessor, the hr 39, but the new generation
of Frers-designed yachts are faster, due to increased waterline,
powerful sailplan and efficient rudder and keel. Hallberg-
Rassy’s elegant interior, ample tankage and storage, and seago-
ing layout have been retained. The hr 40 is a contemporary
and fast cruiser. Nikita’s owners sailed her from New England
to the Caribbean and transited the Panama Canal in 2009.
After voyaging across the South Pacific to New Zealand, Nikita
was delivered on her own bottom to Seattle. She is one of the
best late-model, high quality used cruising vessels available in
North America. A recent price reduction makes her an attractive
choice.
