    • Sept 2000 member states [ about 189 countries]of UN met at New York Series of goal to address extreme poverty and human rights Hope to achieve goals by 2015
    • Goals
    • 1. ERADICATE EXTREME POVERTY AND HUNGER Reduce half between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of people who suffer from hunger
    • 2. ACHIEVE UNIVERSAL PRIMARY EDUCATION  Ensure that all boys and girls complete the primary education by 2015
    • 3.PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWER WOMEN Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education, preferably by 2005, and in all levels of education no later than 2015
    • 4.REDUCE CHILD MORTALITY Reduce by 2/3 the mortality rate among children under 5 between 1990 and 2015
    • 5. IMPROVE MATERNAL HEALTH Reduce by three quarters between 1990 and 2015, the maternal mortality ratio
    • 6. COMBAT HIV/AIDS, MALARIA AND OTHER DISEASES TARGETS Have Halted by 2015 and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
    • 7. ENSURE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY  Reverse loss of environmental resources Reverse biodiversity loss Reduce by 1/2 the people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation  Achieve significant improvement in lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers, by 2020
    • 8: DEVELOP A GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP FOR DEVELOPMENT Develop further an open, rule-based, predictable, non-discriminatory trading and financial system Includes a commitment to good governance, development and poverty reduction - both nationally and internationally Official development assistance
