  3. 3. DIABETIC SAMPLE DIET <ul><li>Divide the plate into ½ and the 2 nd half into equal ¼. </li></ul><ul><li>Fill the 1 st half with non starch vegetables like spinach,carrots,tomatoes. </li></ul><ul><li>The ¼ with meat/proteins like egg,fish,chicken. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The remaining ¼ with rice,bread,potatoes,cereals. </li></ul><ul><li>1 serving of non fat sugar free yohurt or milk. </li></ul><ul><li>One serving of fruits like guava,apple . </li></ul>

GLYCEMIC INDEX <ul><li>DEFINITION- measure of effects of carbohydrates on blood sugar. </li></ul><ul><li>Lower Glycemic index-slower rates of digestion & absorption,greater extraction from liver & periphery. </li></ul><ul><li>FACTORS- Type of starch,entrapment of starch,fat & protein content,presence of salt or organic acid. </li></ul><ul><li>GI = AUC of test food x 100 </li></ul><ul><li>AUC of standard </li></ul>
