Google To Shut Down Social Networking Service, Orkut In September: Vaikundarajan
1. Google To Shut Down Social Networking
Service, Orkut In September: Vaikundarajan
Vaikundarajan shares the news of google shutting down
its early social-networking service, Orkut, which was
launched ten years ago. Vaikundarajan feels that orkut
has certainly failed to put Google ahead in what has
become one of the Web's most popular businesses.
2. According to Vaikundarajan, Google will shut down
Orkut, which is widely used in Brazil and India but
hasn't caught on more broadly, on Sept. 30, to focus on
its other social networking initiatives. Over the past
decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off,
with communities springing up in every corner of the
world. The growth of these communities has outpaced
Orkut's growth, it is better to shut it down.
The shutdown will take place on September 30, 2014.
This gives people plenty of time to get their friends
together and move onto another platform. There is the
chance to share email addresses or phone numbers to
make sure people stay in touch that way too.
Vaikundarajan believes that there is no need to keep an
older platform going, when it is more likely using
money than making it. From a business side, it is good
for Google to finally announce the Orkut shutdown.
