  • 6. Steps Summary Steps 1-8 – Making the butterscotch squares Steps 9 – 11 – Covering the squares in chocolate Step 12 – Eating them all up! suzyhomemaker.net
  • 7. Step 1 In a large sauce pan combine 2 cups of the brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and salt. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 8. Step 2 Cook on medium heat, stirring constantly until it begins to boil. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 9. Step 3 Reduce heat to low and continue a slight boil for 15 minutes. Stir every couple minutes to ensure it does not burn. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 10. Step 4 After 15 minutes, add baking soda. At this point the mixture will lighten up and foam slightly. That is okay. Remove from heat. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 11. Step 5 Next add the vanilla extract. When I added mine it began to boil. I guess the alcohol was cooking off. Add the powdered sugar. Stir until all the sugar has been mixed in well. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 12. Step 6 Add the remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar. Stir until just incorporated. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 13. Step 7 Pour into a lined dish (~8x8; parchment paper works well) and let cool for several hours. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 14. Step 8 Turn over onto a cutting board. Remove the liner. Cut into ~1 inch squares. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 15. Step 9 Melt chocolate. Add ~1-2 tsp. coconut oil. Although optional, it helps to thin out the chocolate. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 16. Step 10 Dip each square into the chocolate using a toothpick, fork, spoon, etc. (whichever works best for you) Roll each piece in the chocolate until completely covered. suzyhomemaker.net
  • 17. Step 11 suzyhomemaker.net Place the pieces on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and place in the fridge for about 10 minutes to set.
  • 18. suzyhomemaker.net Eat them all in one sitting – because they are THAT good! Step 12
