OBJECTIVES OF SHARING SESSION <ul><li>To share & expose teachers with SPN 21 on teaching primary 1 students </li></ul><ul><li>To give teachers opportunity to learn new methods & strategies in teaching lower primary science </li></ul><ul><li>To provide teachers guidelines how to design lesson plan based on inquiry learning </li></ul><ul><li>To develop confidence among teachers in using hands on activities </li></ul>
  3. 3. CONTENTS OF SHARING SESSION ON TEACHING ACTIVITIES OF LEAVES
  4. 4. <ul><li>Observing and identifying different </li></ul><ul><li>types of leaves of colours, shapes and sizes . </li></ul><ul><li>Naming and making shape of the leaves . </li></ul><ul><li>Classifying and stating leaves into size group. </li></ul><ul><li>Observing the texture of leaves and making bookmarks. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Observing and identifying different types of leaves of colours, shapes and sizes. <ul><li>Set induction-tr. Explains diff. types of leaves and ask pupils to name/tell the differences </li></ul><ul><li>Development - tr. Explains characteristics of different leaves (shape, colours, & sizes) </li></ul><ul><li>Activities - Ask pupils to collect at least 5 leaves. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask them to draw & colour. </li></ul><ul><li>Tell them to write few sentences </li></ul><ul><li>Closure - recap the lesson by asking questions </li></ul>

Naming shapes & making patterns using different sizes of leaves <ul><li>Introduction -ask pupils to touch & feel leaves inside a box & guess </li></ul><ul><li>Ask them to open a box & see whether their guess are correct </li></ul><ul><li>Presentation -stage 1. ask pupils to observe the size, textures & shapes of the leaves </li></ul><ul><li>Stage 2. Let pupils discuss about the leaves. Then, introduce the lesson </li></ul><ul><li>Stage 3. Group activity where pupils are asked to cut & paste using paint/colours & brush </li></ul><ul><li>Closure - ask them to sketch & make a pattern using leaves </li></ul>

Classifying and stating leaves into size group. <ul><li>Induction set - display a pot of flower & name its parts </li></ul><ul><li>Presentation - discuss the different sizes of leaves using real object & slides </li></ul><ul><li>Activities - group work - ask them to collect different sizes of leaves around the school area. Ask them to classify into the correct headings and match leaves with shapes </li></ul><ul><li>Individual activity - draw/sketch leaves of choice & describe the leaf in size & shape </li></ul><ul><li>Closure - pupils presentation on individual activity </li></ul>

Observing & Identifying the Texture of Leaves & Making Bookmarks <ul><li>Induction set - bring pupils to school garden to collect different types of leaves </li></ul><ul><li>Presentation - ask pupils to observe the shapes & sizes of leaves ( big, small, long, short, thick,thin) & let them to feel the texture of the leaves (smooth/rough) </li></ul><ul><li>Activities - group the pupils (5 each group). Ask them to choose any leaves & paste it on a pre-cut manila card to design a book mark </li></ul><ul><li>Closure - review the lesson (Q & A) </li></ul><ul><li>- tr. Distributes worksheets </li></ul>
