  • ALEX (let’s poll people when on this slide to see what they’re interested in applying for, and pitch appropriately from there.) Background/can use for script: Given the size of the Civil Service, there are an enormous number of possible areas for you to work in, and you will never be short of new challenges throughout the course of your career. The question is, where do you start? The  Graduate Fast Stream  is open to people from any academic discipline. Within it, you can choose from a range of options, according to your preferences and interests. We also have five separate Fast Stream schemes designed for specialists and other groups: The  Analytical Fast Stream  offers graduate opportunities for economists, statisticians, social researchers and operational researchers The  HR Fast Stream  is for graduates with a proven interest in all areas of the HR profession The  Technology in Business Fast Stream  is for graduates who understand and have a strong interest in technology and its application The  European Fast Stream  is for graduates seeking a permanent career in the EU institutions in Brussels The  Northern Ireland Fast Stream  is for graduates wishing to make a career in the Northern Ireland Civil Service. You may apply for certain combinations of schemes at the same time. Depending on eligibility, you may choose one, and only one, of the following four variations: You may apply concurrently for any combination of the Graduate, Technology in Business and European Fast Stream schemes*; You may apply for as many of the Analytical Fast Stream schemes as you wish, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria* - Economist, Statistician, Operational Research and Social Research; You may apply for the HR Fast Stream scheme; You may apply for the Northern Ireland Fast Stream scheme.
  • ROSIE If you apply, you’ll be applying for the “new” FS – I’m the last of the old guard. I’ll talk about some of the roles you might be doing, and my impressions of the FS in a minute, and a lot of it will read across to the new scheme. Just to give a quick background of the differences. I am owned by my department, and I rotate through roles yearly, in one department (BIS), with the opportunity to apply for loans to other departments. The new scheme is different. Structured 4 year programme 2 yr 4 6 month placements rotating across departments, followed by 2 1 year placements in different departments (not sure on this point) Centrally owned (HMRC) and managed (CSR) HMRC T&Cs – ensuring standard pay and holiday across the scheme – as opposed to the current system where we are all on our Dept’s T&Cs, consequently getting diff pay and holiday etc.
  • ALEX Degree requirements – 2.2. for Generalists, 2.1 for specialists (?) Fast Stream offers the opportunity to apply for certain combinations of schemes and, depending on eligibility, you may choose one, and only one, of the following four variations: You may apply concurrently for any combination of the Graduate, Technology in Business and European Fast Stream schemes*; You may apply for any of the Analytical Fast Stream schemes* - Economist, Statistician, Operational Research and Social Research; You may apply for the HR Fast Stream scheme; You may apply for the Northern Ireland Fast Stream scheme.
