  • 1. The sad truth is that modern lifestyle is now penetrated by unhealthy foods and alifestyle that wears out your body. Some of these habits include smoking, drinkingalcohol, taking unnecessary medications, and exposure to pollutants.
  • 2. Because of this, your body may need extra support. Apart from exercise, aproper diet is important. According to studies, nutrients like antioxidants cangive you the support you need.
  • 3. Out of the many antioxidants nowadays, astaxanthin is one that has taken thespotlight. Scientists are now noting its many benefits. For those who are notfamiliar with astaxanthin, here are some important facts to remember:1. Astaxanthin is a member of the carotenoid antioxidants.Carotenoids are pigments that provide plants, foods, and even certain speciestheir vibrant colors. Right now, there are over 700 naturally-occurringcarotenoids. Astaxanthin provides salmon, krill, and even flamingos withtheir reddish or pinkish colors.
  • 4. 2. Astaxanthin can be found in a kind of natural marine microalgaecalled Haematococcus pluvialis. Another source of the nutrient are animals that consume the microalgae, like salmon, krill, and other types of sea creatures.
  • 5. 3. While salmon is one of the best sources of astaxanthin, you shouldavoid consuming commercial salmon because these are filled with theantioxidant’s synthetic version. Wild salmon, on the other hand, may be too expensive for your budget because you have to consume at least three to four ounces daily to get the recommended amount. However, there is no guarantee that wild salmon are free of pollutants.
  • 6. 4. Compared to salmon, krill is not easily contaminated with industrialwaste because their bodies are too tiny for contaminations. However, the amount of astaxanthin found in krill may be too little for any profoundbenefits.5. Another good source of astaxanthin is an astaxanthin supplement.High-quality products have their astaxanthin derived from the marinemicroalgae, and do not contain any preservatives.6. The recommended dosage ofastaxanthin is four to eight milligrams. Some supplements deliver their formula in one-milligram capsules, making it inconvenient for you. Find one that has at least four milligrams in one single pill.
  • 7. 7. Antioxidants are classified according to which cells they influencein your body. There are two types: water-soluble and lipid-soluble. Astaxanthin, as well as other carotenoids, are lipid-soluble. This means that they require dietary fat in order to be absorbed well inside your body. Some astaxanthin supplements do not have any added fat to their formula, while others contain fat, such as omega-3 fats.
