  2. 2. IDE An integrated development environment (IDE) is a software application that provides comprehensive facilities to computer programmers for software development. AnIDE normally consists of a source code editor, build automation tools and a debugger.
  3. 3. Microsoft Visual Studio Microsoft Visual Studio is an integrateddevelopment environment(IDE) from Microsoft. It is used to develop console and graphical userinterface applications along with Windows Formsor WPF applications, web sites, web applications,and web services in both native code together with managed code for all platforms supported by Microsoft Windows, Windows Mobile, WindowsCE, .NET Framework, .NET Compact Framework and Microsoft Silverlight. -Reference Wikipedia

  5. 5. Features1. Code editor:- Like any other IDE, it includes a code editor that supports syntax highlighting and code completion using IntelliSense for not only variables, functions and methods but also language constructs like loops and queries.
  6. 6. 2. Debugger :-Visual Studio includes a debugger that can beused for debugging applications written in anylanguage supported by Visual Studio. Thedebugger can be configured to be launched whenan application running outside the Visual Studioenvironment crashes.
  7. 7. 3. Designer :-Visual Studio includes a host of visual designers to aid in the development of applications. These tools include:a) Windows Forms Designer:The Windows Forms designer is used to build GUI applications using Windows Forms.b) WPF Designer:The WPF designer, codenamed Cider,was introduced with Visual Studio 2008. Like the Windows Forms designer it supports the drag and drop metaphor.
  8. 8. c) Web designer/development :Visual Studio also includes a web-site editor anddesigner that allows web pages to be authored bydragging and dropping widgets. It is used fordeveloping ASP.NET applications and supportsHTML, CSS and JavaScript.d) Class designer :The Class Designer is used to author and edit theclasses (including its members and their access)using UML modeling. The Class Designer cangenerate C# and VB.NET code outlines for theclasses and methods.
  9. 9. e) Data designer :The data designer can be used to graphically editdatabase schemas, including typed tables, primaryand foreign keys and constraints.f) Mapping designer :From Visual Studio 2008 onwards, the mappingdesigner is used by LINQ & SQL to design themapping between database schemas and the classesthat encapsulate the data.
