For severe rupture the best treatment often depends on the age, activity level and the severity of the injury. Surgery is often the best treatment option to repair an Achilles tendon rupture. For many people, however, nonsurgical treatment works just as well. Some treatments are:
• Nonsurgical treatment: involves wearing a cast or walking boot with wedges to elevate the heel which allows the ends of the torn tendon to heal.
• Surgery: to make an incision in the back of the lower leg and stitching the torn tendon together.
• Rehabilitation: after surgery or even after non surgical treatment, patient has to undergo a rehabilitation program involving physical therapy exercises to strengthen leg muscles and tendon
