Parts of the Digestive System Continued <ul><ul><li>The Small Intestine </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Large Intestine —also called the colon— </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Rectum </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Anus </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Inside mouth, stomach, and small intestine there is a lining called the mucosa this lining produces juices which help break down food </li></ul></ul>

Why is the Digestive System Important? <ul><li>Food in not the form of energy the body can use </li></ul><ul><li>These foods must be changed into a form of energy that can be used by the body </li></ul><ul><li>This converted energy is then absorbed by the blood and carried through out the body </li></ul>

Description of each Organ <ul><li>The Oral Cavity </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Also known as the mouth </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The Oral Cavity is were the food is chewed </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Saliva is secreted from the mouth to help break down the food </li></ul></ul><ul><li>The Esophagus </li></ul><ul><ul><li>A Muscular tube in the throat to the stomach </li></ul></ul><ul><li>The Stomach </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Stores and digests food </li></ul></ul><ul><li>The Small Intestine </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Absorbs food as nutrients </li></ul></ul>

Description of each Organ <ul><li>Large Intestine </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Stores food and wastes and prepares the food to be egested </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Rectum </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Stores solid feces </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Anus </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Feces pass through this part and gets egested out of the body </li></ul></ul>
  • 7. Possible injuries to System <ul><li>Eating improper foods </li></ul><ul><li>Eating too much (Bulimic) </li></ul><ul><li>Eating too little (Anorexic) </li></ul><ul><li>Eating too fast or too much </li></ul><ul><li>Ripping your stomach slightly </li></ul>
