  4. 4. FOREWORD Typically, a foreword is meant to be a preamble to a book. Ironically, I wrote this foreword in the end. I wanted to see how the report would shape up and then craft a foreword to fit the context. Though I knew what I wanted to write about, I did not have a firm structure in mind when I sat down to write this report. It was an attempt to address common questions I am asked all the time. I knew I couldn’t spend the necessary time to properly explain and answer each individual. I also knew that there is much need for this kind of transparent information out there. This report is a compilation of the information necessary to start making a four figure passive monthly income from a purely information based websites, also known as content websites or niche websites. Please note that I have emphasized four figures because it is a relatively easier and reasonable target to achieve. However, the principles discussed in this report can also be applied to create a much larger business. For example, I own websites today that are generating a consistent five figure monthly income on a passive and residual basis. This report is detailed and thorough enough for you to take and run with it. I was cognizant in ensuring the material is practical and more importantly actionable so you can take action immediately. Please forgive any shortcomings in this report and please let me know what I can do to improve the content. I’d be grateful to you for your feedback. You can reach me here and here. I truly hope you enjoy this easy and practical read, and most importantly apply the concepts to materialize them into a profitable side business for you, all in just your spare time. All the best Back to top
  5. 5. WHO AM I? My name is Sunil and I am just a regular hard working guy that has a full time day job and several streams of passive income on the side that I have built over time, one at a time. I have always been interested in expediting the wealth creation process so I can do the things I enjoy doing now instead of waiting 50 years to do it during retirement. I have been naturally inclined toward creating multiple streams of passive income because this allows us to live a life on our own terms. Passive income allows us to work from anywhere and anytime, all while providing peace of mind and a safety blanket. I have started, grown and sold several websites, have bought and sold a brick and mortar small business for a nice profit, have started and maintained a healthy portfolio of income producing websites (all of which bring in passive income month after month) and have profited very nicely from my investments outside of the internet space as well. I have been able to do all of this thanks to the additional passive income streams I have created over time. Today, my passive income earns me more than my day job does. I utilize the profits from my “side gigging” activities to work less and play more through flexible work arrangements while expediting the growth of our net worth at the same time. My wife and I enjoy traveling to see and experience different places, languages and cultures. We enjoy sports, movies, music, board games, shopping and eating out. We enjoy community service and giving back to the society that has given us so much in return. Financial abundance allows us to do the things we enjoy most and spend time with family and friends nearest and dearest to us as often as we want. I have always been (and still am) a strong believer that everyone should have something going on, on the side, in addition to their day jobs – whether that’s an hourly job or a successful salaried corporate career. The reasons can be numerous (financial security, job security, flexible lifestyle, having the option to eventually quitting at will, a bit of extra income, expediting retirement, taking several semi retirements, or just plain thrill and fun to name a few). I always say that do as you may for a living, but always have your feet wet in a side gig. If nothing else, do it for the tremendous advantages the tax code allows business owners to benefit from. Owning a side business and benefiting from the tax laws that favor business owners is probably the best legal tax shelter available to tax paying citizens of the United States. While the tax specific discussion in this report is specific to United States based readers, the principles are broader and work the same way in other countries and territories as well. Here’s an Inside Look at Some of the Passive Income I Receive Each Month from My Sites

  11. 11. The above are various other commissions from Paid Survey companies and various Affiliate Commissions on products and services promoted by my websites
  12. 12. Detailed Breakdown of How Earnings are Generated Although this topic is a lot more detailed than the scope of this report, if you are interested in reading how my monthly earnings are generated read it here. This link discusses earnings generated by some of my websites during a one month time period. Website traffic is also beyond the scope of this report. However, below is a screen shot of the traffic my most popular website attracts to give you an idea of what’s possible even for a single small owner operated online business. This website was built and runs on the SBI platform, a website building tool which is discussed in depth later in this report. This website attracts over 3,000 unique visitors to the website DAILY. On good days traffic doubles at near 6,000 visitors per day. The above are not all the earnings my passive income streams generate, but rather a sample of a selected few to give you an idea and show you that it is possible. My websites mostly generated their income from three main avenues; advertisement (both private and public placement), affiliate commissions and royalties from the sale of my own digital products such as ebooks and audio books. I will discuss these in the later chapters of this report. All in all my websites generate several thousands of dollars each month. This number is on a steady rising trend and will continue to grow the more I continue to build additional streams of passive income. Only you determine when and where you want to stop. The best part about all of this is that you can do it too without necessarily quitting your full time job. I have been doing this for a long time, and I built all my businesses one by one part time in my spare time by using turn-key tools and establishing systems that are mostly self-sufficient. I will discuss these later in this report.
  13. 13. My intent is not to brag by telling you all of this. Rather, my intent is to be as transparent as I can and to show you that this is real stuff and very much possible, and that you too can achieve what I have achieved if you are willing to work hard for it. It is my hope that my personal story, examples and the material in this report helps inspire and encourage you to take action and build a better tomorrow for yourself and your family. And finally before getting deep into the material, I am not at all technical and you don’t have to be either. In addition, English is my fourth language. If I can do it, so can you! In fact, I bet you can do it much better than I can. While it sure helps to be technical and fluent in English, they are not requirements by any means. The interesting thing is that when you take action, you just never know where you end up. For many in my circle, what they started “on the side” has become what they do for a living. I certainly can, and so can you. The material in this report opens a world of opportunities ahead. Back to top
  14. 14. THE GENESIS OF THIS REPORT Observing my success over time, many friends, family and colleagues have both casually and seriously asked me about how to start a small business on the side that can generate a passive and residual supplemental income stream for them. These questions and those who asked them only increased over time. This report is the best way I can adequately respond to all of them, and provide the same information to those who I don’t know yet who are seeking this information. Supplemental side income is desirable for many because of: Increasing inflation (cost of living) but wages not catching up. Basic things like gas and groceries are getting more and more expensive but wages are not rising to catch up. Many people realize somewhere in their mid to late 30s that the jobs they all went to college for and are currently in are not what they thought they would be like (over hyped Corporate America image). Families and lives are getting busier. When couples have kids and aging parents, the demands of life suddenly increase, physically, emotionally and financially. People have desires that a fixed income does not support. People usually budget around their fixed incomes. So if no extra money is coming in, nothing extra can be added to the budget without sacrificing something else. Job security is a huge issue. Globalization, outsourcing, downsizing and economic woes in general are worrying people. Many desire something to fall back on; a safety blanket underneath them to catch them if and when they fall. A desire to retire early. Many would like to make more so they can save more and make good investments with extra money so they can retire early. We all know what is happening to the promise of social programs like Social Security. I would argue why wouldn’t anyone want a supplemental income flow? In fact I believe everyone should have something going on the side. The problem is that most people expect money to come to them easily. Unfortunately, many people still have the illusion that money grows on trees. Let me be very open and honest right off the bat. What I do and speak/write about will not make you rich overnight. It certainly didn’t make me rich overnight. If you are not willing to put in the time to learn and apply this knowledge to build a successful business, THEN YOU MUST STOP READING NOW. I would hate to waste your time and disappoint you. What I do is not for the desperate and impatient. If you need cash flow immediately, I suggest you take up a job or pursue other work online type activities such as paid surveys. This report is geared for someone wanting to establish a solid, long term internet based income stream that you can operate and manage on the side; something that won’t take much of your time and yet generate passive and residual income every day. This business model can make you a good amount of money for a long time to come if you put in the work now. I write from personal experience, and you can be assured that what I share with you has worked for me. You will see this as I will share some images and results from my own websites.
  15. 15. How much money are we talking? What I will share with you can make you a couple hundred, a few hundred, a thousand, or tens of thousands of dollars a month. It all depends on what you want and how much effort you put into growing your business. As I said, I started with one website and built additional ones over time after experiencing some success and learning the process. Each website generates a different level of income, but they are all profitable and in aggregate provide a significant amount of income for my family. The good news is that most of this can be done by investing your time or sweat equity as many call it. The financial commitment is minimal at best. You just have to be ready to put in the time and effort in learning and applying the concepts discussed in this report. Roadblocks that Prevent People from Achieving their Goals Very few people have the genuine desire to learn and apply the concepts it takes to succeed on the Internet. Very few people believe in it in the first place. Since you are reading this, you and I are in this rare category. What stops many of the believers from reaching their goals is often the lack of resources. There are three resources I am referring to; time, investment capital and the technical knowledge to use computers, build sites, promote them and then make money from them. In my circle, most have everything but time. Many simply lack the funds. Most average fixed income families have a limited amount of spare cash to “play with”. They usually use this cash to save for short term purchases and invest for long term goals such as retirement. Unfortunately, there is a preconceived belief that starting a business requires a lot of money. While a traditional brick and mortar business may require heavy investment upfront, you can get started with the business model described in this report for less than $300. Thanks to technology and mainly the Internet, life today is as simplified as it has become busier. Paradoxical isn’t it? Starting the kind of online business discussed in this report requires piggy- bank caliber cash at best. I can’t tell you the number of hard working friends I have who have brilliant business ideas but just can’t take that first step because of their belief that it takes a lot of money to get started in business. The truth is, today more than ever in the past, starting a business is not only very easy but also very cost efficient, again thanks to the technological advancements and turn-key solutions available off the shelf for anyone to purchase and start using. What we have today is the ability to skip the technology, equipment, staffing and all other technical aspects and just focus only on what we know and do best – our business itself. This brings us to the last barrier of technical knowledge. The thought of starting a website and then optimizing it so that it grows and gets found by search engines, and then to implement ways to make money from it sounds intimidating to many, and rightfully so if you’ve never been exposed to the process before. Websites carry with it connotations like programming, java, HTML, servers, databases, etc. Even IT professionals can be intimidated by this. What most people do not know however is that you don’t need to learn how to do any of that, at least as far as the technical side is concerned. There are some very good tools (most are free) that you can use to satisfy pretty much every business need.
  16. 16. Take my situation for example. I am a CPA with corporate finance background. I am not web developer myself. If I can do it, then you bet you can too. If the three major challenges or barriers to business described here are the ones that are stopping you too, you will certainly appreciate the rest of this report. As discussed, money and technology shouldn’t be an issue. As far as time, only you can decide your priorities. Most often, people who say they don’t have the time just haven’t made what they’d like to do a priority. Once you make something a priority, you will find a way to make time for it. You Don’t Have to be the Next Bill Gates It is important to realize that success is a relative term. What success is to you may not be the same to me or someone else. You might not become the next Bill Gates, and it is not necessary for you to hit a home run each time you swing the bat. Singles and doubles make just as much difference as long as you keep hitting them. What I am getting at is that you may not want to put in the work necessary to have a website that generates $10,000 a month. Maybe you just need an extra $200, $500 or even $1,000 a month (very feasible) to generate some extra cash for various reasons such as to drive a better car, dine out more, take more or better vacations, save more or invest in the stock market. Maybe you want to retire early, or have the option to. Maybe you want to semi retire, or take a long sabbatical, or have the freedom to work from anywhere while travelling. Any of these motivations suffice. For many people, even a few hundred extra dollars each month can bring a drastic change in lifestyle. Over time, these few hundred can get one a nicer home, a better car, more retirement money or simply more pleasure such as a nice vacation, or an extra one. What can just a few hundred or one thousand dollars extra do for you every month? It is very exciting to even think about the possibility that something you can create in your spare time can impact your lifestyle so much. So what does it take to build your own side business online? Before getting into the actionable steps, it is important to discuss mindset. You have to change the way you think. You have to attract success to you. This is all very much possible, and the material in this report will help you do it. But you have to believe, you have to have faith and you have to change your mindset first and foremost if you want to succeed. The Necessary Ingredients for Success While the steps of the entire process are laid out in this report, there are a few things you need to succeed that I cannot provide you with. These are: • Time – You will need 10-12 hours a week to commit at least initially after which you can lay off. • Motivation – I cannot motivate you to stick to your schedule and make progress. YOU must do it! • Determination – 110%
  17. 17. • Desire – If you have not convinced yourself yet, your desire is likely temporary. You have to have faith, work hard and stick to the plan. • Patience & persistence – Online success is not automatic. Some work months and some years without seeing the first penny of profit. This is ok. It will suddenly hit (not gradual) and when it does you will see the money floodgates open up to you. • Money - $300-400 maximum – NO you will not be paying me. This money is for the tools and resources you need such as your own website, your own WWW name online, etc. With these tools, you are going to be building a passive income producing asset that will pay dividends for a long time to come. Also remember that an income producing asset has a value, which can be realized if and when you sell it. If you can honestly say that you have each of the above requirements, then I can guarantee you will be successful with your endeavor. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER – Tools, Resources, Images and Affiliate Relationships The tools and resources discussed in this report are all the tools and resources that I use in my business. You don’t necessarily have to use the same tools. There are many technological solutions available online at all kinds of price points. My reasons for using the tools and resources I do is a balance between the cost effectiveness, ease of learning and usage as well as the time and effort I save by using them. Because I have been using these tools for years and I stand behind their effectiveness, I am also an Affiliate for many of these. Many links in this report are Affiliate links, which award me with commissions when sales are generated. The images you will see in this report may change as the various tools and resources mentioned in this report evolve over time. That said, the functionality and output will likely continue to remain the same. Finally, while tools and resources evolve and change over time (and they have), the value of this report is in the business model and process described, which continue to remain effective. Back to top
  18. 18. THE RIGHT MINDSET FOR SUCCESS ONLINE The most important factor that will determine your success online is not starting a website and building a business. It has to do with your own beliefs. In order to succeed online, or with anything in life, you must believe and be convinced that the results you are aiming for are achievable by YOU. I have been doing this for years and if there is one thing I’ve learned for certain while coaching many others do the same, it is that contrary to popular belief, succeeding in online business / internet marketing is 90% mindset, and 10% execution. The steps are laid out for you, and resources available on demand. You just need to execute. Those who execute (produce) are the ones that succeed. Many people ask me about what makes me so successful and my response is always the same. Aside from the necessary ingredients such as determination, drive, passion and patience, the number one reason is my mindset and the beliefs I hold in it. There is nothing I cannot achieve if I set my mind on achieving it. It is just a matter of proper execution and giving my business enough time to gain traction. You will attract into your life what you believe in and the way you think. If you want to be successful, you have to think, believe and act successful. There is no way around that. To some this may come easy and to others it can take years of work. But whichever you are, you won’t succeed until you bring a change to yourself first. What is interesting is that once you bring about that change in mentality in your own self, and you start to believe in your capability to succeed online, you will start seeing results in everything you do. You will realize that you are now pushing a bit harder, running a bit faster, jumping a bit higher, all while you are happy doing it. You will be open to learning new things and develop a bit more patience because you believe in what you are doing. You know that by sticking to a process or roadmap, success will inevitably knock on your door. Once you overcome your fear and doubt, you will have to put the blinders on and focus on the task at hand. You cannot get distracted. Distraction is the biggest cause of not getting anywhere once you have overcome your doubts and fears. Unfortunately, distractions are all around us. Entrepreneurs are known to flip flop between different business ideas. It’s a curse that affects many of us. You will have to fight it hard. What usually happens when you bounce around is that you get spread so thin and as a result none of your projects blossom and come to realize their full potential. The successful entrepreneur (after spending some time wandering between distractions) learns how to set aside everything else and focus only on the task at hand. Successful people are not distracted by other get rich quick schemes or alternatives to making money online or offline. Nothing affects them as they keep plugging away at what they have started until they finish it. That is what you want to be like. One of my biggest goals in writing this report is to cut out the fluff and provide you only with the simple and proven ways to succeed with an online business. What will likely happen once you get started with your business is that you will be searching the Internet for all kinds of short cuts or alternative businesses. Try not to do this. You will only end up wasting time. Learn from my mistakes. Learn from my experiences. I have not gotten here without failing repeatedly, learning and perfecting this process. I certainly hope you can benefit from it and avoid all the mistakes I
  19. 19. made. The process described in this report is simple, easy to follow, leverages other things you have done by building on it each step of the way, and best of all it is tested and proven. It is how I have built my websites one at a time and made them a success. Forget the Myth about Good Looking Websites The Internet works in interested ways. Understanding search engine behavior will really help you put into perspective how important your website design really is compared to the content in it. How many average or even sub-par sites do you see ranked very high in Google when you search? Several – all the time. Any idea why these “ugly” websites are ranked so high? Because the site owner focused more on developing good quality content instead of spending months perfecting the look of the site. See, the Internet is a big game of keywords, phrases and the way you use them on your website and each webpage within it. We will go over all that later. But for now it is important to realize that search engines actually do not like complicated web designs like Flash technology for example. Search engines love words. That is how they find you and rank you in searches. This may be hard to believe, but this is exactly how it works and you will see it when you get started. Take a look at one of my websites below: See how simple and plain it is? No I did not have to program this. The automated tool I used took care of it. I will discuss the tool I used later. What if I told you that Google ranks this website very high in search results for over 3,000 different search terms? Amazing isn’t it? Hopefully that convinces you. You won’t get anywhere trying to perfect your site. Trust me, I am a perfectionist
  20. 20. and I had the toughest time coming to terms with this fact. The sooner you come to terms with it, the lesser time you will waste in the future. So why am I telling you this? Well, I want you to take away the main fact or point I am trying to make, which is to focus 80% on your content and 20% at best on the look and feel of your website. Just know that later when your site becomes a heavy traffic generating machine, you can always go back and fix up the way it looks and feels. But don’t lose all that valuable time up front, you will regret it later. Understand the Process Life Cycle Starting a profitable online business from scratch takes planning and the right approach. There is a proven method to be successful online, but it all starts with the top, literally. That is, you must change your mindset and believe in your capabilities. Once you have gotten past that stage, I will share with you how to plan your website’s concept (essentially the industry within which you will compete), then how to materialize that concept or idea into a physical website. Once you have your website done, I will share with you how you can drive gobs of traffic to it. The more traffic you have, the better your website will do in search engine rankings, as well as in profitability. I will then share with you how to make money from your website (the various ways) and then how to grow those earnings to the next level. Back to top
  21. 21. THE PASSIVE INCOME BUSINESS MODEL ONLINE EXPLAINED If you have not been able to convince yourself that you can do it like the many others who are living the dream, then this discussion should help. I hope to explain clearly what this business model is about, how it works and WHY it works. You will see that it is mostly common sense and that it is almost impossible to fail at it. So what is the reason why most don’t do it? Fear, the lack of courage, faith in themselves and the process, as well as because they don’t want to put in the time it takes to make it work. Others who try and fail often do so because they are not patient and persistent enough. This is a wide spread and common issue, not just as it pertains to this subject, but to life in general. This will help because I have simplified the entire business into 4 key steps that flow one after another. I will introduce the concept on a high level and then get into the details of each component within. I have succeeded with several business models online, but this is the internet business model which turned me into a strong believer in generating passive income online. Today, I am living my dream and have never looked back since. No matter how much spare time or money you have, or how technical you are (even if you are not at all), this model works for anyone. It has been around before even the birth of the Internet and has constantly proven its effectiveness time after time. The only difference today is that we can apply this model on the Internet platform to propel and expedite our success. So without further dragging this out, here is what the model looks like. The most important thing to keep in mind with this model (and the reason why it works for everyone) is that it revolves around one particular topic, or niche. That topic could be anything you are passionate about, have experience and expertise in or something you have a strong desire to learn about. The reason for such criteria is because you will have to develop useful content over time that will attract targeted visitor traffic to your website. When it comes to your success online, traffic is your most important component. That is assuming that you have good quality content that will not only attract targeted traffic, but also will engage your visitors and retain them as frequent visitors. So while traffic is the main key ingredient to making a lot of money online, content is king. Content is what will draw targeted traffic to your website and hence it is the first component of this model. Content is King You will hear that phrase a lot. I am certainly a believer in it based on my experience. There are millions of websites out there, most of which are garbage. People put up websites of all kinds on the Internet, but the common theme between the successful players is that they all have solid
  22. 22. quality content and a lot of it. Without content, which is the soul of your website, your site is merely a skeleton. It won’t really do you any good. Content is the foundation that you will have to build from ground up, and you will have to build a lot of it with good quality. The quality and amount of content on your website will allow search engines to find you for keywords and phrases that are closely tied to your website’s topic. This will bring targeted traffic to you. In other words, it will bring you web surfers who are looking exactly for the information you are providing on your website. The more content you build, the more traffic will come to your website. Always remember, the financial success of your website (or profitability) is a direct result of your website’s traffic levels. Your goal in the early stages of your business should be to develop quality content that will attract a lot of traffic. You can also enhance your website’s traffic by engaging in search engine optimization (SEO) and various internet marketing strategies. Content Brings Visitor Traffic We already determined that content is the foundation of your website. It is the soul of your business. Traffic then is the lifeblood that supports the soul in keeping the body (your website and your business) functional. What happens when the blood level is low? Yes, that is exactly what happens to a website when traffic is low. Your goal is to keep an abundant level of traffic flowing through your website. You also have to keep the traffic fresh by attracting new visitors to your website on an ongoing basis. It is said that everything is good, but in moderation. I disagree. Content and traffic are two things you can NEVER have enough of. The more traffic you have, the less it is. I will discuss other ways to attract traffic to your website as well, but always remember the BEST way to get targeted traffic is to keep developing quality content over time. It is free and it is very easy once you understand the basics of “on page” search engine optimization (which you will by the time you are finished with this report). Pre Sell to Your Traffic Why is traffic so important and emphasized at each stage? Because your traffic is what will bring you revenues from your website. It only makes sense that the more people you have visiting your website, the more money you will make. The quality content that you will create will establish you as an expert authority in your field. Your expertise, which your visitors will see based on the amount and quality of your website content, will build your visitor’s trust in you. If a visitor finds you, reads your content and starts to trust you, you are more than halfway home to “monetizing” that particular visitor. When you build trust, you have the opportunity to pre sell to your visitors. Pre selling is nothing like selling, it just sounds similar. When you pre sell, you are building trust and a relationship with your visitor. When you have a good relationship with your visitors, they are happy to take your recommendations and buy the products and services you recommend. The products and services that you talk about are mostly going to be programs that you promote
  23. 23. as an affiliate. Down the road you might want to offer your own products as well (such as an ebook, or an audio CD). Your pre sold visitors will be more than happy to purchase your recommendations and even your own product in exchange for the reputation you have built and all that good quality content which you are providing for free. That is only one of several ways you can make money on your website. When I started some years ago, advertising revenue was my main revenue generator. Specifically Google Adsense. I developed a website with a ton of solid content that started attracting thousands of daily visitors a day. A lot of those visitors clicked on the “Ads by Google” that Google paid me to display on my website. I also make money from private placement ads, where other businesses pay me a fixed amount to put an ad (usually a banner or a text link) of their business on my website. The heavier your website traffic, the higher you can charge for the ads. The key to pre selling is to develop your own unique voice with the content of your website. This is nothing you don’t already do, but the challenge is to stick to it consistently. Many website owners “tweak” their tone of writing when they write for their website. DO NOT do this. Be yourself. Your own voice is your unique voice. This is your unique proposition and helps you pre sell to your visitors by building credibility and trust. Your own voice comes with the “been there done that” tone, which your visitors will love. They don’t want another commercial website built just to sell to them. They want something genuine, something fresh and from a first-hand perspective. I highly recommend the Make Your Words Sell guide, which is a comprehensive step by step guide to learning how to pre sell and make that sale. It is a must read guide for anyone in any field of work. This guide is written by one of the best in the industry (Dr. Ken Evoy) and used to sell for a lot of money. It is now FREE and you can download it here. The guide will teach you how to write specifically for the web, and pre sell along the way. It is the single biggest reason why my sales pages convert as well as they do. Another excellent guide is the SBI Free Pre Selling Guide – Download it here. Monetizing Your Traffic This is the part of the process that you work so hard for. This is why you create quality content to drive traffic to your website. This is why you spend a lot of time pre selling, building credibility and trust. This is where you make money from all that traffic you have built over time. This can be challenging depending on your website’s topic and the kind of traffic you are attracting. For me personally, this is the easy part. It is easy because I am not afraid to experiment. You shouldn’t be either. I recommend experimenting with a few different ways to monetize your traffic until you find a combination that works best for you. If one doesn’t work, simply move to another. That said, it is very important to have a plan at the onset before you dive into building your website. This plan should be developed initially when you are planning your website’s topic or niche. When I say combination I mean a few different ways to make money. There is not one way to
  24. 24. make money from your traffic. Some examples are advertising revenue, affiliate marketing, referring leads, selling your own products and services, private advertising placements, sponsored WebPages and donations. I am currently making income from 6 different avenues as I write this. To simplify things and for the purposes of this report, I will focus on three key revenue generating methods that will get you to the $1,000 mark that you are trying to get to. Once you get there, there is no one stopping you from going to $5,000, $10,000, $100,000 and even more. That is the beauty of a passive income model online. There is no sky, no limit to what you can do and how much you can earn. The three avenues of monetization I want you to focus on initially are Google Adsense ads (or another similar contextual ad program), affiliate marketing and selling your own product (this is not as intimidating as it sounds at all). The combination of these three, assuming your site has good traffic levels, works in almost all cases. You have to really do something wrong for this combo not to work. I was able to reach the $1,000 mark with only 2 of the 3 key avenues when I started. Contextual Advertisement (Google Adsense Ads) Let me explain the three in a bit more detail. Contextual advertisement like Google Adsense refers to the ads that are displayed on your website that match the content of your WebPages. So let’s say one of your WebPages is about shower heads, then you will see ads of vendors selling shower heads or services relating to such products. You have no control over what ad appears. Google gives you a code that you simply add to your webpage and wallah, the ads appear. You get paid each time a visitor clicks on it. Trust me, there will be plenty of clicks. I am making very good money each month from this one method of monetization alone.
  25. 25. Have a look at the “Ads by Google” on top of the Web Page. As you can see these ads are related to the topic (Visa Information) of the webpage. This is an example of contextual advertisement on one of my websites. You can see another advertisement block toward the middle of the WebPage (the bottom of the image above). Affiliate Marketing The second key avenue of monetization is through affiliate marketing. This is where you sign up with a vendor in your industry/niche to market their product as an affiliate. When a visitor on your website buys the product or service, you are paid a healthy commission from the sale. This is my main money maker. I have several affiliates who I promote and I make a healthy amount every month from each one of them. How do I promote them? I do it all kinds of ways, sometimes by writing comprehensive, detailed reviews about the products and services they offer and sometimes simply telling my visitors where to get the product or service for the best price. Do I buy the products I review? No. I used to at first. But then I was able to borrow some. Today because I am well established and get a lot of traffic to my websites, companies are very much willing to give me the products for free. I take them, use them, evaluate them and then write a review on them. This works wonders, and “wonder” is an understatement. I also get to keep the product for free as an added bonus! There are so many products that companies send my way that I simply use and don’t do any reviews on. You too will get to this point! Why would anyone listen to you and buy from your website? Remember the concept of pre selling through free and good quality content? Remember building trust and credibility? Your affiliate sales are the result of your pre selling efforts. Trust me, when you get this right and have the right amount of traffic level, making money online will feel like having your own private printing press that prints greenbacks on demand. The feeling is unreal. Today I feel like I can print money anytime I want. All I have to do is send a newsletter to my email list. Don’t get me wrong, it took me a couple years and plenty of sweat to get there. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Again and again, and again. Create Your Own Product Finally, the third avenue of monetization is through your own product. I am not suggesting you develop the next turbo jet by hiring a crew of engineers and getting a patent (although if you could you would be standing on top of this world). What I am suggesting is that a product can be merely an ebook or an audio CD compiled by you. In fact it doesn’t even have to be yours, you can get someone else to do it and get the selling rights for it. Think about how many “wannabe” authors or teachers out there just want that one opportunity to get exposure? I really truly believe that everyone has at least one good book in them. I know you do. There must be something you are so passionate about that you can write about it? There must be something that you are an expert in? Perhaps your profession? There must be something you are interested in enough to learn and write about it?
  26. 26. No matter what you think, there is always someone who knows less than you do. Therefore, you will always have an audience who would be interested in what you have to say. Make sure you download the FREE Make Your Words Sell guide that used to sell for a lot of money. After you read it, sit down and start writing. I can guarantee you that your own work will pleasantly surprise you. There are many tools (a lot of them free) that allow you to type up a small book or report in Microsoft Word and simply convert it to a PDF document. You can even use cool software to make a nice ebook cover. Or, you can put together an audio CD or program much easier than you think. No, you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars. Most these tools are free today if you take your time to search for them. Always read reviews to see what others are using and which programs are the best to use. Better yet, you can choose to work smarter and not harder when it comes to this avenue of monetization. Many have made this work very well for them. You find certain experts within your subject or niche. For example, if you are in the showerhead business, you would want showerhead engineers and product developers, or a salesman that can speak about the industry. You set up some time to speak to them (essentially an interview with prepared questions) about your product or niche. You get their consent to publish the information on your website and off you go. I have seen interviews done personally, on podcasts, over email (you send them the questions), really in any way that is most suitable for you and the interviewee. For them, it’s another incentive to get out there and get more exposure. You will rarely get a “NO” for an answer in my experience. Many website owners develop a full series of interviews, some interviewing just a selected number of experts while others interviewing the whole world related to their website’s niche. In either case, the process is fairly easy and can be automated nicely. You can go from one interview to another, developing a nice collection of useful and quality content that your website visitors would not mind paying for. I will cover this entire process in more detail later. The Online Passive Income Business Model Summarized The idea here was to give you a high level overview of the passive income business model on the Internet that has worked for me and will get you to the $1,000 milestone. To simplify and summarize, you are simply building an information based website targeted to a specific subject (niche) and therefore a particular visitor type in order to help the visitor solve their problem by either providing the information they need, a product or service referral. It is that simple. Here is the biggest caveat. Your success will highly depend on your website’s topic. That is why niche selection is a critical and one of the first steps you take when starting a website to establish a passive stream of income. I will introduce you to a tool later that helps tremendously in researching profitable niches in the online space. The tool helps you gauge the demand (number of searches people make for your topic), supply (number of websites already out there in your niche) and profitability (likelihood and amount of money you can make). You might be wondering how a tool predicts profitability. I wondered the same, but when I used
  27. 27. it I was pleasantly surprised with the comprehensive and accurate results. How do I know the results are accurate? Because the success I enjoy today is due to the careful niche selections I have made over time using the research tools I am comfortable with. This is one thing I do very well, perhaps better than most internet marketers. As I write this report, I own a portfolio of several content based websites, each of which is bringing in solid passive income month after month. I will discuss how to carefully select your website topic next. This is how I was able to establish several successful websites in various niches. Back to top
  28. 28. CAREFULLY SELECTING YOUR WEBSITE TOPIC Once you have developed the right attitude by shifting your beliefs and focus to what your potential truly is (in my opinion the toughest step on your way to success online), it is time for you to start researching potential website topics. And now that you have a good introduction to the passive income model online, it is time to discuss niche selection in a bit more detail. Read this part twice if you have to, but it is critical that you understand it completely and are confident in implementing it. This is the most important tactical step to your success online in my opinion. Some topics, or niches, are doomed from the very start. For example, there are millions of websites on sex, religion and how to make money online. You don’t want to get involved in that. There is very little room to squeeze through all the giants. While the Internet is saturated with these topics. I am not saying you couldn’t succeed in it, but why dig in the same mine where there are thousands others digging too? Wouldn’t you rather find another mine where you can potentially dig more gold for yourself? So keep that in mind as you start developing your website idea. I have spent several weeks crafting each and every section of this report, making sure the fluff is out and the crux is presented clearly. That said, it is your responsibility to read it thoroughly in detail. Missing just a bit of detail can determine whether you succeed or fail. Brainstorm Cleverly & Carefully Just as you would do with any project, starting a website also begins with a brainstorming session. You have to sit down and think about what topics you might be interested in for your website. Write anything that comes to mind. Talk to your family and friends for input if you want to while building a list of potential topics. Spend between 3-5 days on this activity. I don’t mean 3-5 days straight, but rather a few hours here and there over a maximum of 5 days. When coming up with potential topics, keep in mind your hobbies, personal interests, expertise (profession), a skill, things you enjoy doing in your spare time, etc. While your niche’s profitability is very important, your personal interest in the subject is more important. If you are not interested in your website’s topic, you will eventually abandon the project most likely before it even begins to show signs of profitability. An important thing to keep in mind at this stage is the legal implication of what your website will be about. If you are planning a website around expert fields such as law or accounting, it is best to seek legal opinion or not get involved in the topic all together. This is because your advice will be followed by your readers and you don’t want to be held responsible for your reader’s behaviors. Do not give anyone a reason to point fingers and blame you for anything. This applies whether you are a licensed professional or not. Many professionals however are making this work for them. I suggest you approach this kind of a topic very carefully. At the very least, always present your material with a comprehensive and well thought out disclaimer to protect you from any kind of liability. Narrowing Down Your List
  29. 29. Now that you have a healthy list, it is time to narrow down your selection further. Remember, you are trying to identify a narrow niche here, not a broad subject. Make it your goal to shortlist the subjects to three at best. Leave your emotions aside. Your most favorite topic may not be the one people are searching for. You have to apply objective and unbiased thinking here at all cost. Simply evaluate the facts when debating the final few. How do you narrow in the final few? You evaluate each topic based on its size, profitability and competition. Also make sure your topic will not get you into legal trouble or make you ashamed of who you are and what you are involved with. Finally, stay away from super saturated topics like the big three: sex, religion and how to make money online. Don’t be too concerned if none of your brainstormed topics passed all tests. Simply brainstorm again. Taking time with this process is worthwhile and critical. But if you have narrowed down your list to the top 1 or 2 website topics, you must then fully evaluate the topics in detail to study their potential. I love this part of the process because it makes me realize how truly profitable my website’s topic is. I can almost predict my financial success at this stage of the process, without even having built one webpage. Your Niche’s Size & Demand Who says size doesn’t matter? I am not sure about other discussion topics, but size certainly matters when it comes to your website’s topic. Your niche must not be too big, but big enough where there is enough demand to make you good money. Your niche absolutely cannot be too small. If there are not enough searchers for your subject, you can’t expect to attract many visitors, unless of course you are speculating on a growing trend (electric cars, renewable energy, etc.) that might catch fire down the road. A good way to research the size of your potential niche is by using the Google Keyword Research Tool. I will also recommend another good one later. But what you want to do is enter the main keyword pertaining to your niche (i.e. showerheads) and then look at the search volume for it. Put your cursor over that green bar and see what the context reads. You want something that is “average”. If it is low, you probably don’t want that niche. If it is high, then explore something more specific within that subject (i.e. steam showerheads). You don’t want to get tied up in a saturated industry because your website will have a rough time squeezing through the competition.
  30. 30. Now within the same tool, run the same search again but this time click the box that says “use synonyms” on the bottom. This will give you supplemental keywords related to your niche and their search volumes (the green bars you see). If the top 10 keywords are showing at least average demand, then you know that you have picked a niche with high enough search demand to make money from it.
  31. 31. Your Niche’s Competition Measuring competition is also important in selecting your niche. What good is all that search demand and profitability potential when there are already 10,000+ solid websites out there for every topic? You want to make sure your topic has a chance to do well from the get go. Run a quick search on Google and type in your website’s topic in parentheses (“steam showerheads“). Notice the total search number on the top right? This is the total number of websites that are competing for the keyword you typed in. The lower this number, the tighter or narrower your niche. I usually like to see a number between 20,000 and 300,000. Anything less is too small of a niche, and anything more is too competitive of a niche.
  32. 32. But here is the cool thing. Even if the number reads 120,000, you may not need to worry about all those websites. I bet you that most of them are garbage sites. Many are just plain weak. Only a handful are solid players in the niche. Here is what to do. Take the 10 websites that are on the first page of the Google search results. Enter their URL in this Google Page Rank Tool and see what number comes up. A website’s Page Rank (PR) is one indication of its credibility (how many outside websites are pointing in to it). This number ranges from 0 to 10. The higher the better. Google, Yahoo, Facebook and other similar popular websites would rank a 10, while one of my websites would linger somewhere in between. If the top 10 sites have a PR of 4 and above, then you have a tall mountain to climb. If only a handful have a high PR (and these are your true competition), then you have a very good chance at getting your website on top of search results.
  33. 33. Did you notice something? Scroll back up to see the results of our keyword search. The phrase Rain Shower Heads was the second in the list. So I took that phrase and ran a Google search for it, which yielded 14,800 competitors (again, scroll above to see the Google search results). So I took the first website in the top 10 search rankings www.rainshowerheads.com and ran it by the Page Rank Tool. As you can see, its page rank is 0. That means, if you were to pursue a website in the “rain shower head” niche, it will not be difficult for you to consistently appear on page 1 of Google’s search results each time someone searches for your topic. Your Niche’s Profitability Search Google for your topic and see if there are products and services related to your niche that are selling online. Ecommerce is a growing trend and the way of the future, and you want a lot of commercial activity around your niche so that you can claim a piece of that pie too. When you come across websites that sell products or services within your niche, check to see if they have an affiliate or referral program. You can usually see a link somewhere on the bottom footer.
  34. 34. I will introduce you to a tool later which researches the overall profitability data for your website quite accurately. The tool takes a combination of the number of affiliate programs out there that you can partner up with as well as the money vendors in your niche are spending on advertising. Why is this important? Because if vendors are spending top dollar on advertising, then you have a good chance of getting paid well by these vendors to display ads if your website becomes successful in your (and their) niche. You can sign up with Google Adsense, a contextual Ad program that is easy to implement. Advertising Revenue Potential Advertising deserves its own little section here mainly because Google Adsense has revolutionized online advertising and how any website, big or small, can use the program to supplement its revenues. There are thousands of websites built just for Adsense and many are doing very well. When you are evaluating your topic’s profitability, it is important to estimate the advertising dollars businesses in your industry are paying to advertise online. This is particularly important because generating ad revenue is one of the three key ways (at least as far as this report is concerned) you will reach your goal of $1,000 per month.
  35. 35. To do this, use the Google Keyword Tool and run a search on your main topic while clicking the box that says “use synonyms”. Then on the top right, drop down the box (labeled “Choose columns to display”) and select the option “Show the Estimated Avg. CPC.” CPC stands for how much advertisers in your niche are paying per click through the Google Adwords program to appear high up on search engine search results. The numbers that appear represent the cost per click for the keywords and phrases that your search results showed. The higher this number is, the more profitable your topic is from an online advertising perspective. There are some niches where the vendors are paying up to $25 per click. This gives you a rough idea of your topic’s advertising revenue potential. You can run the same process for each one of the topics that you have short listed as result of brainstorming and further analyzing each topic’s size/demand, competition and profitability. The Grand Finale At this point you will have done the necessary ground work and research to pick a winner. Take the few (hopefully not more than three) topics that you have narrowed in on and ask yourself which one are you most passionate about. Then ask yourself which one are you most familiar about. What you already know will help you come up with quality content immediately, while your passion will push you to learn more about the topic and write about it overtime. A nice balance between the two is what you want. The only other thing I would ask you to consider is product development. Since creating and selling your own product is one of our three key avenues to generate revenue in this report, I urge you to start thinking about how easily can you develop a product in your niche. Think about all the expertise that is already out there in your niche that you can leverage to create your product just as I talked about earlier. If you have done everything and are down to your final 2 choices (at this point both should have passed the tests in flying colors or they wouldn’t be here) and just cannot decide, go with the one that you are most passionate about. I would always take passion over “know how” any day. Anyone can learn by reading and practicing, but passion is inherent and a very strong feeling that will fuel your success online. Passion cannot be taught as far as my experience is concerned. Now don’t throw away the list of the other final topics. Take a week off and unwind. Think about what you have accomplished and the topic you have selected. Let the idea simmer in and your
  36. 36. mind tell you that you have made the right decision. Some people need that week to just ponder over their final selection and play devil’s advocate in their mind to determine if they had made the right decision. Use that week very carefully. Once you have decided on a topic, it is very important to put the blinders on and pave the way forward to establishing your passive income business model online. You cannot afford any distractions, especially if you have a full time career and a family to attend to as well. A week is usually enough to form a 100% confident decision. I know this discussion was long, and so will any other important discussion be. You must focus on each and every word, understand it and more importantly implement it by taking action. You cannot skip any step of the process. If you do then I can guarantee you that you are setting yourself up for failure. So do yourself a favor and clear your mind of any and all distractions before reading any of this information. Trust me, I do the same whether I read or write. You cannot afford to derail at all. Once you read it, ask yourself if you truly understand the concepts. If you don’t, please read again. Sometimes I have to read things 3 times just to understand the concept being discussed. Once you grasp the concepts, DO NOT delay in implementing them. The more you wait, the more you leave out on the table. You are now all set to start planning your website. Congratulations for having reached this far. The further you get, the more I can guarantee your success. Back to top
  37. 37. PLANNING YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS – BUILDING THE INFRASTRUCTURE You now have a profitable website topic in mind and are ready to plan the infrastructure of your online business. This is exciting. You will be planning the construction of that mine that will passively feed you gold for years to come. If you have not gone through your website niche selection, go back and do it now before reading this section. Before I get further into the details, I know you realize that this is a lot of material, but it’s all relevant and you must read it. It is only normal to feel a bit overwhelmed while and after reading this. However, it all comes together nicely and many have been there and done that, including me. There is no reason you can’t. Here is a secret. This stuff might seem overwhelming, but it’s really not. It will become second nature to you very fast if you stick to the fundamental principles discussed in this report. One thing I have realized from my experiences is that there is not ever just one project. Every project has several smaller projects built within it. In fact, I recommend that you break up every project you do into smaller projects. It just makes everything so much easier. This is very important from a management and most importantly psychological stand point. Getting one task done brings a sense of satisfaction, accomplishment and happiness, which then pumps you up for the next task. The key is to keep chipping away and getting something accomplished at each stage along the way. This is the BEST way to eliminate the overwhelming feeling. You will WIN the war by winning all the small battles. If you have followed my writing through my website, newsletter or blog, you must already know that I am a big believer in the Japanese principle of Kaizen, part of which says to plan very carefully but implement rapidly. That is why I keep emphasizing planning to you. I don’t mind if you take a full month planning, so as long as you do it carefully and correctly. Because once you have planned appropriately, you can begin to implement what you have learned immediately. You will notice that in everything I write, I try to break up tasks in smaller, actionable, measurable and feasible tasks so that you can gauge and organize your thoughts and get started immediately. I have provided you with the tools along the way to help you achieve your goals in the most efficient manner. Visualize Your Website I will share with you something that has worked wonders for me in the past. Before tackling the technical aspect of any project, I like to close my eyes for a bit and visualize the final product. Once I have a clear picture of what I want, I back-track and determine what steps I need to take to materialize my idea. I run through the steps in my mind, then put them down on paper before proceeding with implementing them. This does two things for me. First, it gives me a preview of what I am working to accomplish. Knowing what I want the final product to look like will make each and every step easier to complete as I can reassure myself that I am working toward the end goal. The second thing it does is that it provides me with a blue print, a road map that will take me to my goal. Just like an architect needs a blue print, so do I when I engage in any project. You will too.
  38. 38. What I provided you with in the previous discussions is part of your blue print. We will complete that blue print in this section so that you can choose a good domain name for your online business, plan out your website content and get started making your website. Plan Your Website Domain Name Your domain name will become your identity online, and it is important to carefully select one. This was much easier to do in the nineties and early 2000s, but there are hardly any obvious good ones that are left. That said, I will introduce you to a tool that will help you find one that is available and fits your website topic as well for free. Simplify your website domains as much as you can. Try to select one that is short, easy to remember so it can be shared through word of mouth (preferably catchy) and related to your website at the same time. Ideally your domain should be the name of your website as well, and contains the main keyword related to your niche (i.e. www.SteamShowerheads.com). There are other basic essentials to keep in mind when planning your website. For example, you must decide on what kind of hosting you need and which hosting provider to go with. A host is necessary for your website to show up on the Internet. This is where your domain and website files are stored so that visitors can view them using the Internet. You will need your private email account (with your domain as an extension i.e. YOU@steamshowerheads.com), some picture editing software, an HTML editor (so you can build your WebPages) and a few other things here and there. You have the option to go out and shop for each one of these in pieces. But that is not what I will tell you to do. You don’t want to waste time doing all that when you can be spending time working to build a solid business instead. You also don’t want to get involved with the technical aspects when you don’t really need to. If you are interested in going out and piecing your own puzzle together (and many do), go out and do it by all means. The important thing here is that you take action. I highly recommend you read the how to make your website. I explain each component in detail, and provide recommendations on the best ones to get. Don’t worry – you do not need to be a geek to make use of the tools I recommend. Remember, I am not a techie. I just know how to turn on my computer, use the keyboard, drag the mouse, point and click. Plan Your WebPages Start visualizing what kind of content you will have on your website. Imagine what the header menu will look like and what your main sections will be. This is essentially the skeletal system of the website, while the content is the soul and meat that will house inside it. Planning out the site sections is important because this will lay out the plan for your content development. When you know what the different sections of your site will be, you can then create content catered to each of those sections. Keep in mind the keywords in your niche that you had researched earlier when contemplating the different sections of your site (i.e. steam showerhead reviews, stores that carry steam
  39. 39. showerheads, etc). You want to build WebPages that target keywords that people are searching for so they can find your website in the search results. Also start to plan out sub categories within categories of your website. For example, your steam showerheads website might have a section on “how to install steam showerheads”. You might want several discussions under that section such as “installing steam showerheads on tiled walls” or “how to install steam showerheads without damaging your wall”. Start writing these down in your research notes document. Plan Your Affiliates & Your Own Product Search on the Internet for vendors in your niche that offer affiliate programs. Start compiling a list of vendors and what they offer. This includes products, services or information (books, reports, tapes, etc). Spend a bit of time researching each vendor’s reputation, product quality and determine if it is something you would be comfortable recommending to your website visitors. Do the same for the product you plan on launching. Browse the Internet and determine what your niche needs. What kinds of questions do your potential visitors have that you can answer? Can you write a small guide like this to help them out? An Ebook? A small report? Read blogs and participate in forums to get a pulse for what people are most in need of? Look at the best-seller list on Amazon. If a hard copy book is selling well in your niche, this is a good sign that your Ebook will likely sell as well. One approach that has worked very well for me is converting the articles on my website into guides, books and reports. You too can recycle your content by tweaking it a bit here and there. I believe in working efficiently and this is a great way to instantly create quality content for your audience. Write down ideas and what you are finding on the Internet. I usually keep a word document or an excel spreadsheet handy on my desktop with all my notes from research. Your research should show some positive trends over time that will help you narrow into the kind of product to create and what information to put in it. If you choose to interview experts in the future and turn the interview transcripts into articles or content for your product, then your research should also help you facilitate those interviews. Planning the Right Tools to Make Your Website You have come to a point where very few do. Most would have turned back by now thinking this is too much work and out of their reach. They missed out. Because what I am about to share with you will relieve you of all your reservations. So if you have been overwhelmed by anything I have told you till now, forget that feeling because it is all about to change. Building your own website is no joke. It is not easy. You first have to learn about the various components involved, then buy them and piece them together to build your website. A working knowledge of HTML (coding) is also good to have so that you can program your WebPages the way you want them to look. Quite overwhelming isn’t it? Well, if you are like me (not a programmer and not interested in learning), wouldn’t you love a single program that provides all the tools you need (and the coaching to go with it) that allow you
  40. 40. to build your own website without learning even a single line of code? I searched for a long time, and still do to see if there is anything out there that is even slightly better than the program I use to this day. I still have not found one. I use a program that literally spoon fed me and held my hand at every stage of the process. It will do the same for you. The steps are very easy to understand and perform, and most importantly they work like magic and you don’t even have to learn anything technical. This program also comes with its own community of thousands of other website owners who have been there and done that. These are people that understand what situation you are in and will help you achieve your objectives. They helped me as well, and today I am helping others. When you get to my level, you will be helping someone else who will have recently discovered this program. I am referring to Site Build It! You may have heard the program for a long time as they have been around for a while now. This is the program I use to build my sites. It is the best, most comprehensive and cost effective one stop solution that gives you everything you need including your own free domain name! You get unlimited hosting with a point and click tool to develop your website. Not only that. Remember the keyword and niche research procedures I shared with you earlier? This program has the best keyword research tool built in that will give you the most recent and accurate supply, demand and profitability data in less than a minute. The program also comes with all kinds of other helpful tools that will help you build and maintain high traffic levels to your website. You will be able to Blog, publish newsletters and track your traffic in a matter of minutes. Again, let me emphasize that you do not need to learn anything technical at all. For me, it was simply magic when I had discovered it. Can you imagine an accountant trying to figure it all out all alone? I have given you a lot for free to this point, and you can keep it that way if you want to. You just have to piece the puzzle together and go at it the long way. If you would rather do that, I have dedicated hundreds of pages of helpful, practical information to help you make your own website. But if you are really serious about expediting your success and skip the learning curve and the pains that come with it, you will eventually have to spend a little bit if you are serious about making solid passive income online with minimum effort. I was exactly in your position few years back and I made the decision to move forward with I bet less faith than you have right now. I wished there was a guide like this when I was at the stage of making the decision. Earlier when I told you that you will need less than $500 to get started, this is exactly what I was referring to. I was giving you a conservative estimate by overshooting the cost of the program. The true cost is actually much lower. Site Build It! is an excellent one stop resource with everything you need built in. I do not have the words to describe the greatness of this program, its capabilities and what it has done for my “career” making passive income online through multiple niche websites. I largely attribute my financial freedom and peace of mind to the ongoing coaching and step by step guidance I have received from Dr. Ken Evoy and his team at SBI all these years.
  41. 41. What is interesting is that years after I had made this life changing decision, I realized that the real value is not just in the tools that SBI provides you, but rather in the tremendous training and coaching that comes with it as well. The community of helpful experts and support services are priceless. The program itself has several features built in that work behind the scenes, any of which single handedly can be worth hundreds of dollars if bought or programmed individually. Remember I told you that I will introduce you to a tool that does the brainstorming and keyword research for you? How about when I told you about the tool that will even help you select a profitable niche, and provide data through which you can guesstimate your success instantly? This is what I was referring to. There is simply nothing better out there, especially if you are a beginner wanting to reach the goal of $1,000 per month in passive online income from a website. The good news is that this is the biggest investment (and for many the ONLY investment) you need to make to reach your financial goals. SBI gives you everything you need, and a ton more. If you are not convinced in this program’s potential, just have a look at one of my websites and the success I am experiencing online. I will also be the first one to tell you NOT to simply listen to me and get SBI. I want you to be 110% confident in the program before pulling the trigger. I want you to see it for yourself and highly recommend you read about Dr. Ken Evoy and his program first hand. I also recommend that you read about the many others who are making SBI work for them. These folks are all just like you and I; some are stay at home moms, some are retirees, some are folks who work in 9 to 5 corporate jobs, some college students and some are merely teenagers. Even if you already have your mind made up and are ready for SBI, I still recommend spending enough time just reading through the SBI website first and learning more about what it is all about and what you can accomplish with its potential. There is nothing like pure confidence to make you feel that you have what it takes to take on the world, and then some. I recommend you take a look at how SBI compares to everything else. These case studies are quite revealing and will tell you a lot about the program. The next few sections will help you start your website and implement traffic building concepts. You will find these sections helpful even if you already have an SBI site. If you already have a website and have realized that you selected the wrong niche to begin with, I suggest considering starting from scratch. Go back and assess the profitability of your niche and the feasibility to beat your competition. Give it a shot and I guarantee you that you will experience much better results this time around. Back to top
  42. 42. STARTING YOUR PASSIVE ONLINE BUSINESS Congratulations and good luck as you get ready to develop the tangible website that will bring you financial success year after year for a long, long time to come. Very few things get me more excited than finally materializing my vision after weeks of planning and finally launching a website. The launch of a new website brings along with it a lot of promise, plenty of hope and high expectations of success. It also brings with it an element of positive surprise, perhaps what gets me more anxious than anything else. This is where you put on those blinders and run fast down your path. Distraction will only lead to failure. You can’t afford to get distracted, and trust me there are a ton of distractions out there. The last few discussions have aimed to keep you away from all that. You have learned: • To adapt the right mind set to succeed online • The online passive income business model (CTPM) • How to narrow in on your website topic • How to plan your website layout If you skipped any of the above, either purposely or by accident, I recommend going back and reading those sections in detail. Missing just one piece of information can decide whether this approach will be successful for you or not. If this business model is planned the right way from the start, you can almost predict its success over time. It is just then a matter of execution and time. I am not saying you will become the next Hotmail or Google, but you might easily be able to supplement or even replace your income from a full time job, or your spouses, or both. Your website’s success will certainly bring you a lot more financial freedom, flexibility, peace of mind and more self satisfaction. You will start to generate extra cash on a passive basis month after month, without having to constantly work for it. With that said, I have told you before that succeeding with this model is not easy. You have to believe in it, be willing to work very hard initially and have a lot of patience in the long run. Such is the Internet; it just takes time for websites to get established and start making money. One of my websites did not make its first penny until 8 months into the project. As I write this, it is making well over $4,000 a month on auto pilot, and it has an interested buyer willing to pay six times what the website generates in annual revenues. If you are a geek like me, that is a multiple of six on EBITDA. No really, so many people are chasing that home run of getting rich overnight. They end up spending all their time and money on foolish schemes and end up frustrating themselves even more. Trust me, I have been there and done that, and today I am witnessing a ton of others do that as well. People spread their attention in all kinds of places, often spreading themselves very thin and getting nothing accomplished as a result. When they do this, nothing gets done and they obviously don’t get anywhere. People are just not willing to put in the work it takes into building a legitimate income generating business online. Remember, nothing worthwhile having in life is easy or free. I am not sure what is so hard to understand about that? I know that YOU have understood that because you have gotten this far. You have taken the right
  43. 43. steps along the way to prepare yourself to finally launch and get online. You have overcome the hardest part of all, which is to believe in what you are capable of doing and getting this far. You will be surprised at how few people make it. That is not necessarily a bad thing. While I am a big advocate of enriching the world to eliminate hunger, I have come to terms that I alone can’t make that happen. If everyone did this and succeeded, the market would become saturated and there will be less opportunity for a newcomer to make it work for them as effectively. I had made those very same mistakes and lost a lot of time and resources. I am not excluding myself at all from the herd. I used to blame the programs and tools I used, but really I should have blamed myself. Really, there is no scapegoat here. But I eventually found the light. I am telling you all this so that you can learn from my mistakes and not have to go through them yourself. That is why we study and learn from past events. That is called “History class” in schools. Get the Tools You Need I had recommended you use Site Build It! in the previous section discussing planning your online business infrastructure. Let me reiterate that SBI, and this report as a whole is mostly geared for beginners and a non technical audience. That is not to say you won’t learn anything if you are not a beginner. In fact, the next few discussions are geared for anyone interested in building more traffic and making more money on the Internet through a website. If you’d rather build your own website without SBI, then I recommend the following tools for you: • Domain - GoDaddy • Hosting – GoDaddy Hosting • HTML Editor – CoffeeCup or DreamWeaver • Keyword Research Tool – Market Samurai • Newsletter Program - AWeber • Excellent Support and supplemental tools – SBI does a phenomenal job of this I have written about each one of these topics in great detail on my website. You can access these in the how to make your own website section. This section is for non technical folks like myself. I explain website building, search engine optimization, internet marketing and how to make money online in simple, practical, step by step guidance in plain English. English is my fourth language. I don’t have complex terms stored in my vocabulary. I promise that it won’t confuse you. My recommendation is to use SBI. See, what SBI does for you is brings all these tools together in one place, and then surrounds them with other invaluable tools that you can’t have access to otherwise even if you wanted to exclusively pay for it. I am referring to the brainstorming tools, niche selection tools, the community support, customer service and much more. There is absolutely nothing like it out there. SBI automates a lot of processes for you, making sure that you don’t get distracted and keep moving forward. It has thousands of technical functionalities in the back-end that you don’t see, but all these are working to ensure your site is developed in the best way possible for search engines to find you and rank you high on search results.
  44. 44. For me personally, SBI was a blessing because over time I had unsubscribed to the many blogs and email lists that I was signed up for. Thank God I don’t have to deal with all that spam from the Internet marketers anymore. SBI has been all I have ever needed. Create Your Website Framework Let’s talk website design for a bit. The design, or look and feel of your website is important. However, your website content is more important. Your design should be simplistic, appealing and welcoming. It should be clean with a lot of white space (breathing room for the eyes) and not heavily saturated with images. Your objective here is to spend a few hours at best designing the look and feel of your website and moving on to creating valuable content. In fact once you are done with your website design, DO NOT go back to it for at least a year. It is very important to take that point seriously. You could be in big trouble if you are a perfectionist like me. Perfectionists like you and I would tend to spend weeks and months getting the website design perfect. This is simply foolish. Some of the most profitable websites out there have a very simplistic look. Have a look at StevePavlina.com for example. This website / blog is very basic, yet makes over $100,000 per month, or over $1.2 Million per year! Remember that structure you had planned earlier for your website? You MUST stick to that and not derail. This is very important. There is a reason why I have written this report in phases, so that you can stick to the method and accomplish things in order and with discipline. There is no room for distractions or you will never reach your goal of $1,000 per month in passive income from your website. While you are working on the design of your website and its structure, group your content (WebPages) into like themes. For example, for a steam showerheads site, you might have articles about its installation, ongoing care, how it works etc. Group all those together so that you have all the installation articles under the installation section, etc. Whenever you are stuck at any point, remember that you have a 24/7 customer support team at your disposal. Simply send them an email. I have never waited more than 24 hours for a thorough response. You can also visit the SBI community forums and seek advice from other website owners who have been there and done that. Chances are your question has already been asked and answered in the archives. To summarize website design, always remember that simplicity and ease of navigation are critical. Your goal is NOT to be best designed website but rather to make the most money, and you accomplish that through a user friendly website with valuable content that your visitors will find beneficial. Just search the internet and you will see that some of the most profitable websites are simple in design. There is also a technical reason to why these sites do well, and SBI covers that very well for you. Remember, you are reading this report because you want to build a business in your SPARE TIME. So DO NOT blow the little spare time you’ve got perfecting your website design. Instead, focus on creating good quality content for your visitors. Properly search engine optimized content is what drives traffic to your website and revenues in your pocket, not your website design. Once you have your website layout figured out, I recommend working on the basic WebPages
  45. 45. like the “About Us” or “About Me” page, “Contact” and “Privacy”. There might be other staple pages based on your website concept that you might want to get started on. This will give you good practice using the SBI webpage building tool. And since these pages do not contain the meaty content, you can play around with these without worrying about proper search engine optimization. These pages are still very important however, from a reputation and credibility stand point, so do spend due time on them, but just have fun while at it. Start Building Your Home Page Your homepage is your main page and should contain your main topic keyword. This is the gateway to your website and should be carefully crafted to tell your visitor what your website is about as comprehensively but yet as concise as possible. It is your job to engage your visitor and convince them to stay once they arrive at your website. You will have to communicate the value you will provide them very clearly. But keep it mind, this page can’t be too long or you will lose your visitor. Your overall goal should be to: 1) Get your visitor there (SBI takes care of this for you) 2) Convince them of your valuable content and 3) Compel them to take action and navigate through your website (SBI trains you to do this as well) How do you do that? By being yourself and writing in your own unique voice. Talk to your visitors like I am talking to you right now. Engage them in a conversation similar to how you would talk to the cashier at the grocery store. Speak from an active, first hand perspective. Ad your own sense of humor (or lack thereof), it doesn’t matter as long as you are genuine. Trust me, the visitors can see the kind of person you are through your written words and they get to know you. While you do that, attempt to summarize the various sections of your website in a sentence or two. Give your visitor a big picture introduction to what your website is about and what it has to offer in the various sections. Your goal is to get the visitor to click on the other sections and stay on your site for as long as they can. For example, visit my Dubai Information Website. Notice that it is brief, yet gives you enough information to know what the site offers and the various sections within it. You will also notice that I have not put any advertisements or crazy flash design on the home page. Beauty lies in simplicity, at least when it comes to this kind of an information based passive income model online. Your homepage’s goal is to draw organic search engine traffic through optimized keyword focused content, engage and welcome your visitor; not to distract them (again, SBI takes care of all that for you). Also notice how each highlight or summary is a link pointing to its respective section on the website? This is important from a search engine optimization perspective. Keywords related to your main theme that are used as links (also called anchor texts) are very powerful. But make sure you use this strategy sparingly and in proper context or you would be seen as a spammer by search engines. You want to avoid this at any cost. Mother Google is generous, but it punishes like a B%$#* if you manage to get on her bad side.
  46. 46. There are hundreds of technicalities and details to keep in mind when crafting each webpage of your website, especially the home page. For example, your page title, keywords and descriptions must be crafted a very specific way. Your headlines and links within the webpage need to be very specific. The number of times you use your main keywords varies based on the length of your webpage. The same goes for the supplemental keywords you use. Where do you get these keywords to begin with? How do you get all these steps right so that you can create a website that can be ranked high in search engine search results and benefit from gobs of organic search traffic? If you were to make your own website by putting together all the components I have discussed in previous sections instead of using a comprehensive tool like SBI, you will spend a lot of time learning and then implementing each one of these details to be able to create a highly optimized website that is both human and search engine friendly. There is also a lot of chance for human error. Have a very careful and close look at the menu below: That is not a joke. That is the single stop control panel and all that you will need to build your website. That is a screen shot of what my SBI “menu” looks like. The good news is that SBI does everything for you in the background. Yes, you won’t see it working, but it runs thousands of checks behind the scenes and tells you exactly what is wrong with each webpage on your website and how to fix it. For example, when you create a webpage,
  47. 47. before publishing it live on the internet, SBI provides you a free tool called “Analyze It”. This tool is absolutely God sent. Have a look below at what the Analyze function can do for you – again, all with just one click of the mouse. After building each WebPage, all you have to do is hit the “Analyze It” button and SBI will give you a one page summary report within 5 seconds that show you what exactly to do (as you can see for example, pointers like add your main keyword to the title, your keyword does not appear
  48. 48. in a text link block, etc.) in order to get a 100% passing score for your webpage. There is no limit to using it either so you can keep analyzing your WebPages until you get it right. This tool alone is worth thousands of dollars in my opinion. SBI also provides you with the best keyword tool program that will give you all the keywords related to your niche. It will provide you will supply, demand and profitability data so you can pick and choose what keywords to use in your WebPages. SBI eliminates the guessing, frustration and all the time consuming and technical work. I don’t know where I would be today without it.
  49. 49. Let’s Dive Into Your Website Content You should now be ready to create content for your visitors now that you have taken care of the home page and the basic staple pages that every website has. At this point you should have an idea of what your categories will be. For each category, write a few articles (using the keywords you researched) until you have written a few for each category. I know you may not be there practically, but I know you are there conceptually if you have read each section carefully. Like I said, it is worth reading over and over again. You will pick up something new each time you re-read it. When you are ready to put this guide in practice, I suggest you read each section and then apply it before moving on to the next. Now back to the topic. Imagine your website as a pyramid. Your home page is on the top (tier 1), your categories are your tier two pages right below the homepage. Then you have several tier 3 pages, which are sections within each category at the base. Do not go deeper than 3. Search engines will have a hard time finding you. Let’s go through an example. For the steam showerheads website, you might have 3 categories (tier 2 WebPages – all linked to the homepage) as follows: 1. Showerhead installation 2. Showerhead maintenance 3. Showerhead brands Under each of these categories, you might have several articles (tier three articles that are connected to their respective tier 2 pages. For example, under category #3 (brands), you might have the following articles: 1. Delta showerhead reviews 2. Kimberly Clark showerhead reviews 3. Hudson showerhead reviews Remember what you did when you created your home page? You created links to the tier 2 categories. Similarly, you will create links to tier 3 WebPages from your tier 2 categories. Remember, you are building a three tiered pyramid. When building tier 3 WebPages, you must use the best keywords possible in your niche. SBI provides a neat “lateral keyword” research tool within its “Brainstorm It!” function, an easy to use tool similar to “Analyze It”. So for example, for the #1 category “showerhead installation”, you would enter in that phrase and you may get results like: delta showerhead installation, new
  50. 50. showerhead installation, bathroom showerhead installation, tile showerhead installation, self showerhead installation, showerhead installation tools, etc. Go through this process for each of your categories and save all the high profitability keywords that the SBI tool provides you with (the system allows you to save keywords). I’d say about 10- 15 solid categories would make for a solid site. Aim for 5-10 articles per category. So let’s take the maximum scenario. Let’s say you do 15 categories and 10 articles per category, you will have a 151 page site (150 pages plus home page). Search engines love large websites. Remember, the more quality content you have the more traffic you will get. The more traffic you get, the more money you will make. Plain and simple! Write the Non Money Making Pages First When you begin writing, focus on writing good quality content without the thought of making money in your mind at all.
