  • 2. What is up with Small Medium Enterprises (‘SME’) technopreneurs? SME’s are in general the key success factor of our economy -45 Million SME’s -53% of GDP and 90% of total workforce -Food, agriculture, manufacturing, handicraft and furniture Global technopreneurs have changed the way we live today and they start small as SME’s. For example: Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Apple, etc.
  • 3. You are technopreneurs too... You have the chance and the ability to make a difference in our society.
  • 4. Where is Indonesia’s ICT today? ICT 1.0 Completing Connectivity in voice & data ICT 2.0 Entering Making use of the connectivity “ What we do with the connectivity is what will separate one prevailing society from the rest.” In five years, our teledensity improve from 10 to 70% and from the 2nd most expensive to 2nd cheapest in the world. Data penetration will happen much faster.
  • 5. What is so great about ICT 2.0? The rise of Small Medium Enterprises The emergence of collaborative ecosystem The start of real technology convergence Most importantly, we can solve more problems in our society
  • 6. Where is Indonesia as society is going? On Economy : Building infrastructure, energy security & agriculture productivity On Social Politics : Strengthening democracy & transparency as well as eradicating corruptions On Health : Better healthcare system On Education : Globally competitive education system and many more...
  • 7. Can we all do something for our society? SURE THING! Remember M-PESA in Kenya, App-lab (Grameen/Google/MTN) in Uganda and today, websparks in Indonesia

We are the only SE Asian country in G20 An analyst says we should be included in BRIC countries Another analyst says we are a part of Chindonesia, the future world economic powers Our economy still grow in the last 5 years (including this year) So sure, we can be competitive but we have to choose our ‘courts’
  • 10. What are the challenges for Indonesian Technopreneurs & ICT? Low Visibility Product - Furniture, Handicraft, Batik, Software (Made in Indonesia) Market - MIDDLE EAST, US, ASEAN, EUROPE, AFRICA Need to focus on Innovation Increase R&D Spend - 0.7% of GDP Leveraging global innovation - Intellectual Property Rights and Higher Education Infrastructure Internet and Broadband - Expensive 2x India and low quality Network and Collaboration - Local Amazon or EBay Physical Infrastructure Globalization IT Spending 1.4% of GDP - USA 3.5%, Singapore 3.7% Technology Obsolescence Skill gaps Partnership with Government, Business, Academia
  • 11. What Can ICT do to help technopreneurs facing challenges? Provide Global Visibility Through Web and Internet for SME Products and Services , Ecommerce (E-trading and E-payment) Open Innovation Protecting Innovation Intellectual Property of SME, Growing innovations by enabling Higher Education and no of. PhD, Involving Govt, Academia and Industry partners Increase Network and Collaboration Increase Internet and broadband penetration and usage Increase Quality and Productivity ICT Capability building - Training and Partner Development Creating a Global level playing field Locally (Java vs. Sulawesi) Globally (Indonesia vs. China)

Tools & Programs Creating stimulating market place Push for supporting regulations Safeguard IPRs Enable establishment of “ICT Fund” to act as “venture capital” for promising start-up companies (SME) Provide “knowledge and skills development” programs Provide ways to streamline and stimulate sharing of best practices and ideas Provide role of “match-maker” between potential stakeholders
