  • 3. Anathema against the Cross Sumair Mirza “The philosopher puts his glass to his eye, looks at the cross, and then says, “I cannot see anything so verywonderful in it, — even with this splendid glass of mine, which more than can be seen by that poor, humble peasant; I do not care about such a system of religion as that; any simpleton can understand the cross.” So he passes by, and merely sneers at it.” - C.H. Spurgeon
  • 4. Is it foolishness?“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but tous who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, “I willdestroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of thediscerning I will thwart.” Where is the one who is wise? Where is thescribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolishthe wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the worlddid not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the follyof what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signsand Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumblingblock to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, bothJews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness ofGod is stronger than men.” - 1 Corinthians 1:18–25

  • 21. A decision on who Jesus is... I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: Im ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I dont accept His claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. - C.S. Lewis
