    • The Olympian Creation Myth
    • Gaia
    • Darkness (Tartarus) then eros
    • Gaia gave birth to Pontus
    • Then to Uranus who sent down rain to fertilise her
    • Children – titans, Cyclopes, hecatonchires
    • Uranus forced Gaia to keep children shut inside her
    • Gaia persuaded Cronus to punish father – cut off genitals and threw them away
    • Drops of blood fell on gaia and she conceived erinyes (furies)
    • Genitals fell in ocean forming white foam – from this was born aphrodite
    • Cronus freed siblings and became king. Took sister rhea as mate
    • Foretold that cronus would be deposed by son. So swallowed children as soon as born
    • Rhea tricked cronus by giving him stone rather than sixth child - zeus
    • Zeus hidden from father and raised by nymphs
    • When zeus became an adult he tricked cronus into drinking an emetic which made him vomit up children
    • War – younger gods, cyclopes and hecatonchires against titans and cronus
    • Gods won and titans imprisoned in tartarus
    • Gaia angered – sent typhon
