ELECTRONIC TOLL COLLECTION SYSTEM BASED ON GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY Abstract: Currently, most electronic toll collection (ETC) systems around the world are implemented by DSRC (dedicated short range communication) technology. However global positioning system technique is applied to ETC in recent years. It is an innovative technology for Expressway Network electronic toll collection solution. In this paper, the frame composing and working flow of the system are described. Existing system: In the toll gate every vehicle has to wait for some time to pay the money and there should be a person to collect the money and to verify the vehicles in the database. As this process is time consuming and there are possibilities of human errors and congestion this traditional system has got lots of disadvantages. Hence we propose this system Proposed system: The purpose of the project is to provide a fast and safe environment for toll collection and to automatically control the vehicle movements at the toll stations by GPS, GSM technology. In this project is having three module 1) vehicle section: It consists of GPS receiver, GSM modem and IR receiver 2) Toll tax unit: it consists of IR receiver, controller and GSM modem 3) Management center: it consists of GSM modem interfaced with PC. In vehicle, the GPS modem receives latitude and longitude of earth from satellite and fed to ARM processor. The ARM processor checks the status of IR receiver and if the vehicle enters toll tax unit the IR receiver receives the signal from IR transmitter in Toll tax unit. Then the ARM processor sends message about vehicle ID and current location to Management center. In management center the PC receives the message via GSM modem and process it based on GPS value and vehicle ID, then the charges will be applied for that vehicle and amount will be reduced from the vehicle owner

Then the vehicle owner has to pay money in toll tax unit, the paid information passes to management center and management center send the permission to vehicle section to switch on vehicle.
