  2. 2. Dentists are eligible under both theMedicare and Medicaid EHR IncentivePrograms. Many dentists have alreadyregistered to participate and havereceived EHR incentive funds throughone of these programs.
  3. 3. Medicare does not cover routine dentalcare or most dental procedures. For thatreason, most dentists must look toMedicaid for incentive programparticipation.
  4. 4. As of July 2012, CMS reported:• 6,121 dentists have registered for theMedicaid EHR Incentive Program.• 242 dentists have registered for theMedicare EHR Incentive Program.
  5. 5. As of July 2012, CMS reported:• 3,049 dentists have received a total of$64,583,000 in Medicaid EHR incentives.• 59 dentists have received a total of$892,856 in Medicare EHR incentives.
  6. 6. In order to qualify for incentives, dentistsmust meet the same eligibilityrequirements as other types of providerspursuing EHR incentives.
  7. 7. The American Dental Associationestimates that about 12,000 dentistsmeet the Medicaid patient volumethreshold of 30 percent, making themeligible to participate & qualify for up to$67,350 over the 6-year Medicaid EHRIncentive program.
  8. 8. There are no dental-specific measuresin Stage 1 or Stage 2 Meaningful Usecriteria. Dentists will likely be able toapply exclusion clauses to manyobjectives, but each dentist mustdetermine whether he or she meets theexclusion criteria for each applicableobjective.
  9. 9. • Stage 1: 13 of 25 objectives haveexclusion criteria.• Stage 2: 20 of 23 objectives haveexclusion criteria.• Beginning in 2014, exclusions will notcount toward meeting menu objectives ifthere are other menu objectives the EPcould select.
  10. 10. Dentists who wish to meet MeaningfulUse requirements will be eligible to doso by either:1. using an ONC-ATCB Certified EHR that includes EDR functionality or2. using an EDR in conjunction with an ONC-ATCB Certified EHR.
  11. 11. Medicaid EHR IncentiveProgramIn Year 1 of the Medicaid EHR IncentiveProgram, EPs must only adopt,implement or upgrade certified EHRtechnology.
  12. 12. Medicaid EHR IncentiveProgram• Year 2: EPs must demonstrateMeaningful Use for 90 continuous days.• Years 3 – 6: EPs must demonstrateMeaningful Use for a full year.
