  • Nice things about Elgg and BuddyPress: • Open Source (free) • Written in PHP • Relatively easy to configure • Good functionality out of the box • Plugin architecture • Hosting options available
  • Caveats: • No clean way to export from Ning into Elgg (yet) • You need server access • You need some tech know-how • Yet-another-social-network
  • Setup: • Download Elgg or BuddyPress • Configure your web server • Add the database
