Cancer By The Numbers •  Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease, accounting for 1 of every 4 deaths. •  About 77% of all cancers are diagnosed in persons 55 years of age or older. •  About 5% of all cancers are strongly hereditary. •  Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in both men and women.   • 3. 2013 New Cases There will be an estimated 1,660,290 new cancer cases in America in 2013*. *Excluding basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers and in situ carcinomas except urinary bladder. State estimates are offered as rough guide and may not add to US total due to rounding. There will be an estimated 33,950 new cancer cases in Missouri in 2013.
  • 4. 2013 Estimates •  28% of new cancer cases in male patients will be Prostate Cancer. •  29% of new cancer cases in female patients will be Breast Cancer. •  Lung Cancer will be the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. *Excludes basal and squamous cell skin cancers and in situ carcinoma except urinary bladder.

A Closer Look at Prostate Cancer •  An estimated 238,590 cases of prostate cancer will occur in the US during 2013. •  About 60% of all prostate cancer cases are diagnosed in men 65 years of age and older, and 97% occur in men 50 and older. •  93% of prostate cancers are discovered in the local or regional stages, for which the 5- year relative survival rate approaches 100%.1011 Bowles Ave. Suite G-50, Fenton, MO 63026 (636) 496-4660 www.stlouiscyberknife.com

A Closer Look at Breast Cancer•  In addition to an estimated 232,340 new cases of breast cancer among women in 2013, an estimated 2,240 cases are expected in men.•  Steady declines in breast cancer mortality among women since 1989 have been attributed to a combination of early detection and improvements in treatment.•  The 5-year relative survival rate for female invasive breast cancer patients has improved from 75% in the mid-1970s to 90% today.1011 Bowles Ave. Suite G-50, Fenton, MO 63026 (636) 496-4660 www.stlouiscyberknife.com
