Preparation, Planning, and Hard Work is best way • Take time to build relationships. Vendors, colleagues, suppliers. It is amazing how people come back into your life. What goes around comes around. • A good leader is a good listener • Be passionate about your work • Show an interest and be curious regarding the work and needs of your employees and customers • Celebrate Successes but get back to work with commitment that the status quo is acceptable • Put yourself in the shoes of your customer who use your service or product • Empower your people • Encourage innovation, ideas, and mistakes (just remember the 3 things about mistakes) • Be decisive. Make the difficult decisions and take care of problems and conflict quickly • Understand the hopes and dreams of your employees and colleagues • Do not let the things you can’t do stop you, focus on what you can do • Realize that “doing your best” should not be acceptable rationale for not delivering results – you must be doing the right things and doing what is required to be successful • Treat everybody with dignity and respect • Family first. Doubtful you will be wishing you spent more time in the office when on your deathbed • Be optimistic • Happiness is in the journey of life, not the destinations. • Always work to instill a culture of better (customer focus), faster (speed is everything), and cheaper(the power of cost savings is huge in both public and private sector) • Do things such as recognize personal accomplishments. Example is your friend’s birthday or your employee/customer birthday • Customer- Focus; Continuous Improvement culture; Passion
