  • Rich will present each point After last point will pose question to John “So John, what have I missed?” John will respond, “Managing the CEO; successfully aligning technology can only happen through a strong CEO / IT Director partnership that fosters using technology to “gently” influence the Y business processes. Staff see the CEO using (appropriate) technologies, they want to use them”

  • Rich will ask, “John, I’ve established a 2.5 Million dollar IT fund, why haven’t you spent it all?” John responds, “because cost & spending does not provide our Association with value. We automate only after good analysis & documentation, we (as a group) select only 1 or 2 major projects per year to ensure success, we’ve kept costs down by standardizing equipment & software, change management allows us to plan & predict, in turn reducing cost. And lastly, one of the most important reasons for our IT reserve is to fund the complete replacement of our operational environment, when the time comes of course.”
  • Where does IT belong in the strategic plan? Becomes top goal but does not need to stay there Properly aligned with mission can advance YMCA Where will it be in Nationals plan? Becomes a part of other goals – an element of each goal Not a goal unto itself - a line item Lives with in the plan a part of the plan IT drives business
