  • Lots of excellent points. But all these ethical standards seem to be written as though most reporting was done in your own country, whereas in fact most reporting (at national level at least) is about other countries, and often about conflict in other countries. And here, in the instant news world we live in, the principle of do no harm should be high on the list.

  4. 4. Using confidential sources 1. Opinions are worthless without names 2. Beware of eager or powerful people who won’t be accountable 3. Use confidentiality w/ reluctant sources 4. No background briefings 5. Use confidential sources to get to documents or on-the-record sources
