    1. Networking 101 It’s not what you know… It’s who you know!
    2. The Pre-Event Plan
      • Make Business Cards!!!!
      • Overdress for the occasion
      • Have the right mind set
        • How can you help others?
      • Set a goal for the event
        • Who would you like to meet?
        • How many contacts would you like to make?
      • Create an elevator speech…
    3. The Elevator Speech
      • Three Elements…
      • Hook:
        • Get their attention!
          • Landscape gardener: I turn the world green.
          • Nutritionist: I teach people how to behave in front of food.
      • Deliverables:
        • What do you specialize in?
          • I develop brochures, annual reports and flyers for mid-sized companies.
          • I specialize in writing ads for the banking industry.
      • Benefits:
        • Create a statement covering the Benefits of your Service.
          • I help companies stop overpaying on their taxes (accountant).
          • I help companies plan for growth (marketing consultant).

    4. The Big Day
      • Bring mints or gum.
      • Arrive on time or a few minutes early to maximize your opportunity to network.
      • Avoid speaking with people you know!!!
      • Try and sit at a table where you do not know anyone.
    5. The Approach
      • Avoid approaching pairs.
      • Singles and 3 or more are fair game.
      • The handshake, firm with eye contact, as you state your first and last name.
      • Have an escape strategy.
    6. The Dialogue
      • Ask them about themselves!
        • Please tell me about your business?
        • How did you get involved in it?
        • What challenges are you facing?
        • What are you looking for today?
    7. The Wrap Up
      • Networking does not stop when the event ends.
      • Don’t be in a rush to leave.
      • Make sure you meet your goal!
      • Thank the host and the event staff.
    8. Post Event Follow Up
      • Write notes on all business cards you receive.
        • Hot, Medium, Cold etc.
      • Send thank you emails or hand written cards.
      • Set up informational interviews for serious leads.
