      • The Environment?
      • Economic stability?
      • Communities?
    4. We need a model to help analyze development that will show the way forward to:
      • A healthy life…
      • Preserving the environment…
      • Keeping organizations stable…
      • And communities thriving.
      • Let’s sit down together and look at the way things behave around us and how they affect other things
It’s all about BEHAVIOUR of people and systems
    5. We analyze the behaviour of people and systems and their effects on other systems
      • Negative effect < caused by < behaviour
      • Example:
      • Pollutants to air, soil and water< car emissions < driving a car
Negative effect< caused by < behaviour
    6. Healthy Environment We must limit the burden we place on the Earth so it will be able to support coming generations From Individuals
      • Example:
      • Pollutants to air, soil and water
      • < car emissions
      • < driving a car
      • It sounds so simple.
      • It is.
      • If no-one ever turned an ignition key , cars would never emit pollutants
    7. Healthy Environment We can identify behaviour which is both positive and negative for the environment From Individuals
    8. Healthy Environment In turn, we can identify behaviour of the environment which is positive and negative for individuals From Individuals
    9. People generally understand what crossing this line entails. And society has developed measures and regulations for this over the years. Healthy environment Build up of Nutrients, pollutants
    10. And people generally understand what crossing this line entails. Healthy individuals Behaviour causing environmental depletion
    11. This aspect is well understood, too Healthy individuals Effects on health of environmental factors
    12. Healthy Environment Communities must limit the burden they place on the Earth so it will be able to support coming generations From Communities
      • Example:
      • Leakage of chemicals from landfil <Deposition of domestic waste
      • <putting waste in disposal bin
      • Leakage of chemicals from landfil <Deposition of domestic waste
      • <putting waste in disposal bin
      • It sounds so simple.
      • It is.
      • If no-one ever threw anything in the domestic rubbish, there would be no landfill leakage
    13. Healthy Environment In the other direction, communities benefit from being in a healthy environment From Communities
    14. Healthy Environment We must limit the burden corporations and other organisations place on the Earth so it will be able to support coming generations From organisations
    15. Organisations must balance their budgets. Organisations with balanced budgets Healthy Environment Effectively using environmental services is good for them
    16. Organisations with balanced budgets Companies contribute to the community by providing jobs, etc Thriving Communities
    17. Healthy Individuals Thriving Communities Healthy Individuals contribute positively to organizations and the community Organisations
    18. Healthy Individuals Health is good for companies and society Organizations in economic balance Thriving Communities
    19. Healthy Environment Sustainability is a lasting dynamic balance between these factors Healthy Individuals Thriving Communities Organizations in economic balance
    20. PUTTING THE MODEL TO WORK
    21. Most of these interfaces have methods and measures developed which can be easily employed
    22. ISO 14 OOO ISO 9 OOO Global Reporting Inititative Carbon Disclosure Project ISO 26000 Human Rights ISO 19 O11 Environmental footprint
    23. OR YOU CAN USE A PRAGMATIC APPROACH Get a map of your area.... A big one...
    24. ASSETS CONCERNS Stake- holders Resources & Collaborators Across the Board Collaboration Footprint Indicators Objectives Put assets and concerns on the map, details on either side Details Details
    25. Start from where YOU are, in your neighbourhood, community, corporation. Identify Key indicators for areas of concern and for assets assets concerns assets concerns assets concerns assets concerns
    26. For each key measure, give a REASONABLE* objective level of 100 X Identify current situation Identify reasonable rate of change Measure progress Time > * Reasonable = promoting sustainable development 100 50 0 150
    27. X Time > Use these results to work out how to ensure trends go in a sustainable direction 100 50 0 150
