  2. 2. Aim <ul><li>The aim in triathlon is to beat the other competitors in the swimming leg, cycling leg and running leg in consecutive order. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Rules <ul><li>During the swim, competitors can rest by holding an object such as a buoy or stationary object but may not propel themselves using these objects. </li></ul><ul><li>During the bike leg, triathletes may not move forward without the bicycle. </li></ul><ul><li>Although drafting is allowed, competitors may not block out other riders. </li></ul><ul><li>Competitors are allowed to walk but they cannot crawl during the running leg. </li></ul>

Equipment <ul><li>The equipment used in the swimming leg is a wetsuit, goggles, water resistant cycling shoes and a swimming cap. </li></ul><ul><li>The equipment used in the cycling leg of a triathlon is a bike, helmet and water resistant cycling shoes. </li></ul><ul><li>The equipment used in the running leg are heart rate monitors and running shoes made for a triathlon. </li></ul>

Origins <ul><li>The first triathlon was held on September 25, 1974 at Mission Bay in San Diego, California, USA. </li></ul><ul><li>It was created by Don Shanahan and by Jack Johnstone. </li></ul><ul><li>It was sponsored by the San Diego Track Club. </li></ul><ul><li>Triathlon was introduced into the Olympics in 2000. </li></ul>MISSION BAY
