  • 7. So after he left I had to find outI was not afraid of getting lostSo I followed the crowdsTo a hill where I knew men had beenkilledAnd I heard a voice come from the cross
  • 8. And it said father why are theyscreaming? Why are the faces of some of thembeaming? Why are they casting their lots for myclothes? This crown of thorns hurts me more thenit shows

  • 13. The Stations of the Cross Mary’s Perspective
  • 14. THE FIRST STATION Jesus is condemned to die.We adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 15. Meditation:It was early Friday morning when I saw myson. That was the first glimpse I had of himsince they took him away. His bruised andbleeding skin sent a sword of pain deep into my heart and tears down my cheeks.
  • 16. Then Pilate, from his chair of judgment, asked the crowd why they wanted my son executed. All around me they shouted,"Crucify him!" I wanted to plead with them to stop, but I knew this had to be. So I stood by and cried silently.
  • 17. His “yes” – his surrender to God’s will -ultimately destroyed the power of sin and death. While he was growing up, I toldhim many times how I had been graced tosay “let it be done to me, according to your word.”
  • 18. I never could have imagined that thiswould be the sword that would ultimatelypass through my heart: to watch my Sonsay Yes to God, so completely and fully, for the salvation of the world.
  • 19. Now that he is condemned to death, reflect with me on each station of his journey entering more and more completely into our humanity and death itself. Let us ask for God’s grace to be with him and to accompany him on his journey to more fully understand it and be more fully grateful for its gift.
  • 20. PrayerLord Jesus, it is hard for me to imagine the anguish your mother felt at your condemnation. But what about today, when I hold a grudge...? "Crucify him!"When I judge others...? "Crucify him!" Doesnt this bring tears of anguish to both you and your mother? Forgive me, Jesus Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 21. THE SECOND STATION Jesus Carries His CrossWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 22. Meditation:Regaining a little strength, I walked withthe crowds to the entrance of the square. Adoor flew open and my son stumbled out,the guards laughing behind him. Two men dragged over a heavy wooden cross and dropped it on his shoulders.
  • 23. Then they shoved him down the road. My pain for him was unbearable. I wanted totake the cross from him and carry it myself. But I knew this had to be, so I walked on silently.
  • 24. PrayerLord Jesus, I beg you to forgive me for the many times I have added moreweight to your cross by closing my eyes to the pain and loneliness of my neighbor.
  • 25. Forgive me for gossiping about others and for always trying to find excuses to avoid certain people who wish to talkwith me. Help me to be like Mary, always seeking to lighten the crosses of others. Forgive me, Jesus. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 26. THE THIRD STATION Jesus Falls the First TimeWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 27. Meditation: I followed close behind my son as he stumbledtoward Calvary. Nothing had ever hurt me more than to see him in such pain. I saw the cross digging into his shoulders. My heart droppedwhen I saw him fall face to the ground, the heavy cross, landing squarely on his back.
  • 28. For a moment I thought my beloved son was dead. Now my whole body began to tremble. Then the guards kicked him. He rose slowly andbegan to walk again, yet they still whipped him. Iwanted to protect him with my own body. But, I knew this had to be, so I walked on and wept silently.
  • 29. PrayerLord, how often have I seen you fall, and ,unlike Mary, have left you there without concern? How often have I seen peoplemake mistakes and laughed at them? Howoften do I find myself getting angry when someone does things differently than I?
  • 30. Mary offered you her support through yourentire passion. Help me to do the same for you by the support I give to others. Lord, have mercy on me. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 31. THE FOURTH STATION Jesus Meets His MotherWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 32. Meditation: After much struggle, I had managed tobreak through the crowd and was walking side by side with my son. I called to him through the shouting voices. He stopped. Our eyes met, mine full of tears of anguish, his full of pain and confusion.
  • 33. I felt helpless; then his eyes said to me,"Courage! There is a purpose for this." As he stumbled on, I knew he was right. So I followed and prayed silently.
  • 34. Prayer Lord Jesus, forgive me the many times our eyes met and I turned mine away. Forgive me the times things did not gomy way and I let everyone know about it.
  • 35. Forgive me the times I brooded over little inconveniences or becamediscouraged and did not heed your call to courage! Yes, Lord, our eyes have met many times, but fruitlessly. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 36. THE FIFTH STATION Simon Helps Jesus Carry His CrossWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 37. Meditation: I could now see almost completehelplessness on the face of my son as he tried to carry his heavy load. Each steplooked as if it would be his last. I felt hisevery pain in my heart and I wanted the whole thing to end.
  • 38. Then I noticed some commotion nearJesus. The guards had pulled a protestingman from the crowd. They forced him to pick up the back of the cross to helplighten my sons load. He asked the guards why this had to be. I knew, and so followed silently.
  • 39. PrayerLord Jesus, I have many times refused to help you. I have been a selfish person who has often questioned your word.Dont let me remain like Simon, but help me to be like your mother, Mary, who always silently followed and obeyed. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 40. THE SIXTH STATION Veronica Wipes the Face of JesusWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 41. Meditation: As I continued close by Jesus, a woman pushed past the guards, took off her veil and began to wipe my sons sweating, bloody face. The guards immediately pulled her back. Her faceseemed to say, "Why are you doing this to him?" I knew, so I walked on in faith, silently.
  • 42. Prayer Lord, this woman gave you the best shecould. On the other hand, I have wanted to take more than I give. So many opportunities arise every day for me to give to you by giving to others ----- but Ipass them by. My savior, never let me askwhy again, but help me to give all I have to you. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 43. THE SEVENTH STATION Jesus Falls the Second TimeWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 44. Meditation:Again my son fell, and again my grief wasoverwhelming at the thought that he mightdie. I started to move toward him, but thesoldiers prevented me. He rose andstumbled ahead slowly. Seeing my son fall, get up again, and continue on, was bitteranguish to me. But, since I knew this hadto be, I walked on silently.
  • 45. Prayer Lord, of all people Mary was your most faithful follower, never stopping in spite of all the pain she felt for you. I havemany times turned away from you by mysins and have caused others to turn away from you. I beg you to have mercy on me. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 46. THE EIGHTH STATION Jesus Meets the Women of JerusalemWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 47. Meditation: This moving scene filled my mother’s heart with even more love for him. As Ihad seen him comfort so many groups of people during his life, now he comforts this group of women and children in Jerusalem. I was walking a few stepsbehind Jesus when I saw him stop. Some women were there crying for him and pitying him.
  • 48. He told them not to shed tears for him. They had the opportunity to accept him as the messiah; like many others, they rejected him instead. He told them to shedtears for themselves, tears that would bring their conversion. They did not see the connection between that and his walk to death. I did, and as he walked on, I followed silently.
  • 49. Prayer My savior, many times have I acted likethese women, always seeing the faults inothers and pitying them. Yet, very rarelyhave I seen my own sinfulness and askedyour pardon. Lord, you have taught me through these women. Forgive me, Lord, for my blindness. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 50. THE NINTH STATION Jesus Falls the Third TimeWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 51. Meditation: This fall of Jesus was agony to me. Not only had he fallen on the rocky groundagain, but now he was almost at the top of the hill of crucifixion. The soldiers screamed at him and abused him, almost dragging him the last few steps. My heartpounded as I imagined what they would do to him next. But, I knew this had to be, so I climbed the hill silently behind him.
  • 52. Prayer My loving Jesus, I know that many times I have offered my hand to helppeople but when it became inconvenient or painful to me I left them, makingexcuses for myself. Help me, Lord, to belike your mother, Mary, and never take my supporting hand away from those who need it. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 53. THE TENTH STATION Jesus is stripped of his garmentsWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 54. Meditation:With my son finally relieved of the weight of the cross, I thought he would have achance to rest. But the guards immediately started to rip his clothes off his blood-clotted skin. The sword passed through my heart again to watch my son so violated this way.
  • 55. They intended to shame him even more byexecuting him naked. The sight of my son in such pain was unbearable. Yet, since I knew this had to be, I stood by and cried silently.
  • 56. PrayerLord, in my own way I too have strippedyou. I have taken away the good name of another by foolish talk, and havestripped people of human dignity by myprejudice. Jesus, there are so many ways I have offended you through the hurt I have caused others. Help me to see you in all people. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 57. THE ELEVENTH STATION Jesus is Nailed to the CrossWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 58. Meditation: As they threw Jesus on the cross, hewillingly allowed himself to be nailed. Asthey punctured his hands and his feet I felt the pain in my heart. Then they lifted up the cross. There he was, my son, whom I love so much, being scorned as he struggled for the last few moments of earthly life. But I knew this had to be, so I stood by and prayed silently.
  • 59. Prayer Lord, what pain you endured for me. And what pain your mother wentthrough, seeing her only son die for loveof me! Yet, both you and she are ready toforgive me as soon as I repent of my sin. Help me, Lord, to turn away from my sinfulness. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 60. THE TWELFTH STATION Jesus Dies on the CrossWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 61. Meditation: What greater pain is there for a mother than to see her son die right before her eyes! I, who had brought this savior into the world and watched him grow, stoodhelplessly beneath his cross as he loweredhis head and died. His earthly anguish was finished, but mine was greater than ever. Yet, this had to be and I had to accept it, so I stood by and I mourned silently.
  • 62. Prayer My Jesus, have mercy on me for whatmy sins have done to you and to others. Ithank you for your great act of love. You have said that true love is laying downyour life for your friends. Let me always be your friend. Teach me to live my life for others, and not fail you again. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 63. THE THIRTEENTH STATIONJesus Is Taken Down From The CrossWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 64. Meditation: The crowd had gone; the noise hadstopped. I stood quietly with one of Jesus friends and looked up at the dead body ofour savior, my son. Then two men took the body from the cross and placed it in my arms. A deep sorrow engulfed my being. Yet, I also felt deep joy. Life had endedcruelly for my son, but it had also brought life to all of us. I knew this had to be, and I prayed silently.
  • 65. Prayer Lord, your passion has ended. Yet, it stillgoes on whenever I choose sin over you. I have done my part in your crucifixion and now, my Savior, I beg yourforgiveness with all my heart. Help me to live a life worthy of you and your mother. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 66. THE FOURTEENTH STATION Jesus is laid in the TombWe adore you, O Christ, and we blessYou, because by Your holy cross, You have redeemed the world.
  • 67. Meditation: No mother should ever have to bury a child. Just a short time before this day,Jesus looked into Lazarus’ tomb. He must have known he would be laid in a tomb like that soon. And when he thanked God for hearing his prayer, he must haveknown that the Father who sent him would give him life that would never die.
  • 68. In just a few days, this tomb would be empty and forever a sign of Jesus’surrender to the forces of sin and death, forus. We brought Jesus body to a tomb and I arranged it there myself, silently weeping, silently rejoicing. I took one more look at my loving son, and then walked out. They closed the tomb and before I left, Ithought, I knew this had to be ...... it had to be for you! I would wait in faith silently.
  • 69. As we picture this scene, let us place theimage of the empty tomb before our eyes.Whenever you are tempted to stand outsideany tomb and grieve, remember this empty tomb and know that, through the eyes of faith, all tombs are empty. Today, join me in giving him thanks.
  • 70. PrayerYes, my Lord, this had to be because youlove me, and for no other reason. All you ask is that I live a good life. You never said such a life would be easy. I am willing to leave sin behind and live for you alone,
  • 71. please give me the strength and the graceto convert all that I am into an image of the love you showed for me with every beat of your heart. Our Father...Hail Mary...Glory Be...
  • 72. Were You There When They Crucified My LordWere you there when they crucified myLord ?Were you there when they crucified myLord ?Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, trembleWere you there when they crucified myLord ?
  • 73. Were you there when they nailed him to thetree ?Were you there when they nailed him to thetree ?Oh, sometimes it causes me totremble, tremble, trembleWere you there when they nailed him to thetree ?
  • 74. Were you there when they pierced him inthe side ?Were you there when they pierced him inthe side ?Oh, sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, trembleWere you there when they pierced him inthe side ?
