Star Foundation New Article - Presentation Transcript
Ms. Waller, based on our talk, I may be able to do a story for our \"In Your Neighborhood\"
feature that would include a picture. Here are a few questions to get the wheels turning:
-Where is the new location?
UDI Resource Center
800 Mangum Street
Durham NC 27707
-The program meets Saturday's from 1 to 5 pm.
Are you able to do all you want with the kids during that time, or do you need more hours
during the week with them?
Our Saturdays are jammed packed with fun activities for the
children. We have extended our program from 2 hours to 4 hours
on Saturday, and the youth partipants have so much fun that they
are seldom ready to leave at 5 PM.
-Is this going to be a long-term home or do you still desire a place to call your own?
As of now this will home. With our program expanding so fast, a
home of our own may be necessary in the future. However, we are
hoping our M.O.U. with Operation Breakthrough will enable our
group to thrive for years to come in our new location.
-You mentioned wanting this to be a multicultural program. Please explain.
At this time we have included on our Mentor Staff, people of all
ethnic cultures to help with mentoring our youth. Hispanic,
Caucasian, Afro-American and Asian American. Our youth
participants will also become more diversified with our community
outreach programs.
-There are 35 kids in the program now. How do you plan to meet your goal of 100?
We hope to have 20 Step Team Youths, 20 Drumline Youths, 25
Models, 15 Dance Team Members and 20 Youth Choir Members. All
our groups will include boys and girls. With the help of the media,
community outreach programs, and our cable television show we will
reach more youths who are interested in becoming participants in
this positive youth program.
-What are the upcoming events and the dates of those events?
April 16, 2005 TMT Resurrection Walk-A-Thon and “Spirit of
Hayti”
The Star Eleganze Bangin’ Stars and Steppin’ Stars will lead the
Parade which will start at Hillside High School and proceed to
Hayti Heritage Center
Purpose of this walk-a-thon to raise money for organizations with
at risk youth, to provide parents with information about programs
that service youth and to create a collaborative environment for
organizations that work with youth. Contact Tamisha Thomas at
