    Hi Stacey, I am one of the billions of people you met at the conference, Geoff Cain, an instructional designer and English teacher from Tacoma Community College. We are beginning to use enhanced podcasts and hosting our materials at iTunes U. I appreciated the chance to see how others are incorporating podcasts into their curriculum. Keep up the great work!

  1. Today’s students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach. -Marc Prensky

  3. Kids will always change it’s up to the teachers to do something better more smarter and it’s a lot of work.
  4. So many teachers out there say:
  5. “ Well I’ve been giving these same worksheets out for 30 years and if it was good enough for them, then it’s good enough for these kids.”
  6. It’s not though times have changed
  7. A teenager in the U.S. spends between 8 and 10 hours per day engaging in different media
  8. That’s more than double the time he spends on a yearly basis at school
  9. School isn’t the only place where the knowledge is. Knowledge is everywhere.
  10. What if…
  11. What if we empowered our students to find that knowledge? And use it?
  12. What if we brought that media into our classrooms?
  13. What if we tossed out those worksheets and thought of new ways to teach?
  14. What if we find exciting ways to engage our students using the tech tools they’re using already ?
  15. Wouldn’t that make sense?
  16. Research has shown that 57 percent of teens online have produced videos and writings and shared them online.
  17. They’re already using this technology!
  18. Now it’s time for you to see how to begin using it!
  19. We need to adapt our teaching methods and teach students to: connect collaborate create contribute
  20. Classrooms are changing!
    • Driving these changes are:
      • New collaborative computer technologies
      • A change in skills that are valuable to employers.
      • A culture that is rapidly becoming more transparent and collaborative
  21. Using tools that create shared knowledge:
    • help students become subject-matter experts.
    • increase student interest and ownership in learning.
    • give students legitimate chances to participate.
    • provide opportunities for diverse perspectives, both within and outside of the classroom.
    • allow students to post information quickly and in a format that can be changed easily as it grows.
    • give students access to curriculum resources.
    • provide opportunities to build knowledge through discussion and information gathering.
