Ford was active in the boy scouts of America, and achieved its second highest rank; life scout. By 1960, he graduated from Main East High School in Park Ridge, Ilionis He was the first student voice that was broadcast on high school’s new radio station, WMTH. He attended Ripon College in Wisconsin, and he took drama class during college years.
He has gotten married three times. His first lucky wife, Mary Marquardt gave him two sons. Melissa Mathison was his wife after Mary, and she has added two more child to his family. His current and third wife, Calista Flockhart, and he are now parenting her adopted children, as well. Ford has 3 grandchildren.
In 1964, Ford travelled to Los Angeles to apply for a job in radio voice-overs. He signed 150$-a-week contract with Colombia Pictures’ new talent show, playing bit roles. The first movie he acted in was Dead Heat on a Merry- Go-Round
He received the Academy Award then BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor for Witness, After, he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards and one year later, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has received three additional "Best Actor" Golden Globe nominations for The Mosquito Coast, The Fugitive and Sabrina.
