Tie appeals

  1. 1. ‘Most media texts target a range of different audiences’. How true is this for your chosen texts? ...this question has also been phrased... How do your chosen texts attract their audiences? This is a very broad question that takes in strands of Marketing/Promotion, Audience Classification and obviously Audience Appeal Things to write about... Things to consider... • Who the target audience is •  Meeting/Challenging Generic expectations •  Meeting/Challenging Narrative expectations •  Dramatic elements & the themes of the movie • Visual style •  Stars/Director •  Uses & Gratifications •  Trailers/Posters/TV Spots You could analyse the poster and trailer to discuss how this gives an indication of the different audiences. The two main ones being, people who were the same age as the characters are in that era and would be interested from a nostalgic point of view, the other key audience which Meadows discussed targeting people who are now the same age as the characters to raise issues surrounding racism, adolescence etc. For both audiences Personal Identity is key. This is a challenging movie that may appeal to those who want a film that makes you think – discuss the specific appeals of its political nature, its grittiness and how hard-hitting it can be. People were interacting about this film – it caused a stir! Don’t forget that there are some funny bits in this film as well as some excellent and memorable performances. A great soundtrack and a director who is really making a name for himself with his own distinct style – whatever appeals you discuss, remember to ANALYSE!
