Fishing

 1. 1. Fishing
 2. 2. Fishing

Today I will be showing all of you the different knots, hooks lines, bait, lures and many more items and techniques used for fishing.

 3. 3. Why? Do you dread going to work early in the morning or getting on the bus to school. Well , if you want to relax and have fun try going into the middle of a calm lake and try fishing.
 4. 4. Materials

Fishing Rods (3)

Fishing Reels (3)

Bait

Lures

Line

Tackle Box

Fishhooks

Bobbers (Floats)

Sinkers (Weights)

Clean, Supplied Lake

Two Hands

Capable Arm

Fishing License (If over 15)

 5. 5. Rods

One of the most basic parts of fishing is to select a rod. Fishing rods are made in a variety of material from bamboo to wood all the way to synthetic fiber.

Rod size also matters. The larger the rod the less amount of tension you will feel from the fish.

If you are fishing for something small such as a trout a smaller rod would make the experience more enjoyable since you are feeling the fish fight, or try to escape with the bait.

If you are fishing for something larger, such as a muskellunge a larger rod would be necessary for the rod might break from the tension.

 6. 6. Fishing Reels

One style of reel is the enclosed reel.

It is the most basic and simple to use.

To use press in the lever and make a swinging motion, releasing the button in mid swing to cast.

 7. 7. Fishing Reels

Another style of reel is the spinning reel with all the parts exposed.

To cast pull back the bar and hold string with finger, cast with same motion as before, releasing the string.

 8. 8. Lines

Fishing Line is strung along the rod to be cast into the water.

Line strength varies depending on the size of fish you are trying to catch, less poundage for smaller fish.

 9. 9. Fishhooks

There are 2 kinds of fishhooks, barbed and not barbed.

The barbed fishhooks are used to keep the hook the the fishes mouth. The hooks that aren’t barbed are mainly used for catch and release.

Since these don’t have barbs, taking the hook out of the caught fish is less damaging.

 10. 10. Floats

Floats or bobbers are used to tell if a fish is biting.

Attached usually about 1 foot above the hook, it floats on top of the water, “bobbing” when a fish is biting.

Ranging from the size of a quarter to the 3 inches across.

 11. 11. Weights

Fishing weights or sinkers are used to keep the hook and bait at the bottom of the fishing area.

The line is kept tight so if a fish bits the tip of the rod will shake.

The weight of the sinkers varies for how far you want to cast and how fast the water is moving.

 12. 12. Knots

Different knots are used to securely attach hooks or weights.

The knots are used to make sure that no matter how hard a fish pulls the line doesn’t slip and fail.

 13. 13. Fishing Bait

There are two types of fishing bait, alive bait and lures.

Live bait is used because a fish can see that it is food.

One kind of alive bait is earthworms.

Used by just casting out and leaving it there.

Lures are used to get the fishes attention by bright colors.

Varies in color and is cast and reeled in in slight tugging motions.

Also lures are shaped like live bait to mimic fish food. Scent is added to attract fish.

 14. 14. Conclusion

After learning what I taught you on the techniques and necessary materials, you are finally ready to enjoy a relaxing day fishing.
