  • This tenth edition describes annual findings from the NMC Horizon Project, a decade-long research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on teaching and learning. Since 2005, this particular edition has been produced via a collaborative effort with the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, and examines emerging technologies for their potential impact on teaching, learning, and creative inquiry within the higher education environment. The NMC (New Media Consortium) is an international community of experts in educational technology
  • Challenges higher education institutions face in adopting any new technology. Key trends - realities of our time, both in the sphere of higher education and in the world at large over the next 5 yrs
  • Near-term horizon - within the next 12 months Mid-term horizon - two to three years out Far-term horizon - four to five years away from widespread adoption
  • MOOCs had their foundations in 2007-2008, in open online courses taught by David Wiley at Utah State University and Alec Couros at the University of Regina. xMOOCs Sebastian Thrun and Peter Norvig's "Introduction to Artificial Intelligence" course in 2011 - 160,000 people worldwide enrolled
  • iPad has sold over 377 million units and is expected to sell over 377 M by 2016
