  3. 3. ADENOIDS <ul><li>Enlargement of pharyngeal tube tonsils is called adenoids </li></ul><ul><li>Causes: </li></ul><ul><li>obstruction of the pharynx </li></ul><ul><li>swelling of mucous membrane as a result of cold </li></ul><ul><li>chicken pox </li></ul><ul><li>any other disease </li></ul>

ADENOIDS <ul><li>Symptoms: </li></ul><ul><li>breathing becomes difficult </li></ul><ul><li>restlessness </li></ul><ul><li>loss of hearing </li></ul><ul><li>puss oozes from the ear </li></ul><ul><li>Treatment: </li></ul><ul><li>by changing the home environment </li></ul><ul><li>placing the child in sunny environment </li></ul><ul><li>ask the child to breathe through nose </li></ul><ul><li>give milk, eggs, fruits, green vegetables to eat </li></ul>

COMMON COLD <ul><li>common disease caused by virus </li></ul><ul><li>becomes a serious condition when neglected </li></ul><ul><li>Symptoms: </li></ul><ul><li>heaviness in the nose </li></ul><ul><li>Sneezing </li></ul><ul><li>Shivering </li></ul><ul><li>swelling of nose and eyes </li></ul><ul><li>Headache </li></ul><ul><li>Fever </li></ul><ul><li>if neglected may lead to tuberculosis, pneumonia, bronchitis etc </li></ul>

COMMON COLD <ul><li>Treatment: </li></ul><ul><li>isolate the child </li></ul><ul><li>let him take rest </li></ul><ul><li>give hot milk, tea etc </li></ul><ul><li>avoid exposure to cold </li></ul><ul><li>avoid cold food including ice-creams and cool drinks etc     </li></ul><ul><li>consult a good doctor </li></ul><ul><li>Prevention: </li></ul><ul><li>communicable disease </li></ul><ul><li>let other children not come in direct contact with the patient </li></ul><ul><li>use a clean handkerchief while sneezing or coughing </li></ul><ul><li>  the patients clothes like hanky, bedsheets etc should be disinfected & washed in hot water. </li></ul>

WHOOPING COUGH <ul><li>communicable disease </li></ul><ul><li>spreads rapidly in children </li></ul><ul><li>Causes: </li></ul><ul><li>Unbalanced diet </li></ul><ul><li>sudden change in the climate during travelling </li></ul><ul><li>Symptoms: </li></ul><ul><li>pain in the throat </li></ul><ul><li>continuous coughing </li></ul><ul><li>Uneasiness </li></ul><ul><li>sensation of swelling in the throat </li></ul><ul><li>Headache, ill health </li></ul>

WHOOPING COUGH <ul><li>Treatment: </li></ul><ul><li>isolate the child </li></ul><ul><li>let him take rest </li></ul><ul><li>clean the mouth with warm water mixed with salt </li></ul><ul><li>consult the doctor </li></ul><ul><li>Prevention: </li></ul><ul><li>communicable disease </li></ul><ul><li>let other children not come in direct contact with the patient </li></ul><ul><li>the patient should use a clean handkerchief while sneezing or coughing </li></ul>
