Advantages to a Superior Follow-up Effort Follow-up… Timing is everything! After any contact with a company, I believe the best impression can be made if you promptly e-mail thank-you or follow-up letters…  With this approach, you can get to the "decision-makers" before a final judgment is made while you're still fresh in their memory. Also remember. if there is any delay in scheduling the next interview, FOLLOW-UP plays that much more of an important role and I encourage you to devise a plan of attack... A good strategy might be to send an e-mail thank-you letter to each person you interviewed with... but do them on different days. i.e. one today, one tomorrow, etc... Commonsense says, it's almost a sure thing that any e-mail you send as follow-up will be forwarded to the other people on the interview team... probably with a few comments added. If this is the case then sending several e-mails over several days will mean you could create a "chain-reaction" of POSITIVE comments circulating within the company as everyone copies each other on your follow-up e-mail... The above seems a little corny but everyone you met with is busy as hell and are meeting with a lot of people on God knows how many issues, fire-fighting, etc... but yet your future (or at least continue to interview) depends upon these people having a positive impression about you and accurately remembering your strengthsositives... Don't you think a little quality effort at pro-active follow-up could be a big difference maker?  Sanford Rose Associates – Rockford, Illinois Finding People Who Make A Difference 
A Good or Bad Hiring Decision Won’t Be Known For Several Months… Follow-up… Timing is everything! A company must face the reality they won’t know for several months if the candidate they hire possesses the key personality traits of: initiative, aggressiveness, the ability to follow-up, enthusiasm, sincere interest, good communication skills, good business etiquette and professionalism… Wouldn't you agree if you pursue a strong follow-up effort it would demonstrate most if not all of these personal characteristics? You may now see the advantages to a superior follow-up effort to create that all important positive, mental picture of you in the minds of key decision makers… The people who will decide if you are the one they want to hire and how bad they really want you... i.e. terms of a job offer… Playing hard to get may boost your ego but strong follow-up efforts can only help nail down the best jobs and the most favorable job offers… Finding People Who Make A Difference 
A brief, well timed e-mail or follow-up phone call can be extremely important. The goal is to create a reason to pay attention to your follow-up by providing additional information (i.e. an attachment to your e-mail) This will only help the candidate’s cause as there is never a down side to going the extra-mile. Finding People Who Make A Difference 
Traveling that uncrowded extra mile! Please consider… when the candidate (you) provide additional information the Manager will likely forward the e-mail to others involved with the hiring process… If these others respond with comments to the e-mail, you can create a chain reaction of activity focusing attention on you… Now this is what I call Positive Mo! The follow-up e-mail can also serve as that “memory jogger” needed to jump-start getting the next step of the interview process scheduled… i.e. the Manager uses the candidate’s e-mail to forward to HR saying “ let’s get this guy in for another interview… He looks pretty good, etc, etc. At a minimum, you forced key decision maker(s) to “think about you” again. In today’s world they may never give the interview conversation even a second thought in the busy work day they try to manage… “Forcing them” to think about you createsuilds a positive perception… If it doesn’t the candidate won’t have a chance in hell anyways… A strong follow-up effort has no downside. Finding People Who Make A Difference 
Uncrowded extra mile! Your competition for the job… Instead of a seize the day approach they fall for the easy trap of just sitting back and waiting… Never making any attempt to influence a decision through follow-up. Finding People Who Make A Difference 
One thing I'm certain of and that is any follow-up will always help your cause! More importantly it will place you with the select group of people who discover: It's Never Crowded Along the Extra Mile Finding People Who Make A Difference  Food For Thought from the desk of: Denny Wallace, Managing Partner (815) 636-0848 [email_address]
