    • Criminal Identity TheftCriminal identity theft occurs when someone who isarrested uses stolen IDs to make law enforcementofficials believe they are someone else.
    • Identity CloningIdentity cloning can occur when someone wants toconceal their own identity by using someone else’sinformation. A typical example is someone who uses afalse Social Security number to apply for or begin a newjob.
    • Medical Identity TheftMedical identity theft happens when someone usesanother person’s ID or information to make or obtainmedical insurance claims.
    • Financial Identity TheftFinancial identity theft occurs when someone usesanother person’s ID or information to access thatperson’s financial information, such as a bank account,credit card info, etc. Obtaining credit by the use ofsomeone else’s ID or information is also consideredfinancial identity theft.
    • Synthetic Identity TheftSynthetic identity theft is probably the most recentforms of identity theft. Synthetic identity theft occurswhen someone uses multiple peoples’ ID or informationto create a new identity altogether.
