  • Eaton technology alliances… 1st to Announce Windows 7 Compatibility Eaton’s software family, including Intelligent Power Manager, Intelligent Power Protector, NetWatch, Network Shutdown Module, Personal Solution-Pac and LanSafe®, allows Windows 7 enterprise servers, small business and home-use personal computers (PCs) to be monitored and safely shut down during a power failure, protecting and saving valuable data. 1st to announce VMware ESXi 4.0 compatibility Eaton is the first power management company to offer shutdown compatibility with VMware’s ESXi 4.0 host server virtualization software. 1st to Certified Power Provider Eaton is the first power management company to be named certified power partner for Level Platforms Eaton NetWatch Client 5.0 has tested compatible with Cisco Unified Communications Manager 4.3. Go to www.eaton.com/PQ/cisco for disclaimer. First Certified Power Partner for Level Platforms Eaton compatibility with N-able’s N-Central Integration modules under development for other top managed services platforms
  • Here’s the basic breakdown of Eaton’s Power Management components or “building blocks”. The first component is the “connectivity” or the connection of the Eaton device to the network. This connectivity can be accomplished in a number of ways and we’ll take a deeper dive into the specific methods. Another building block is the supervision and administration functionality for Eaton UPSs and ePDUs. This includes load monitoring, device status, notifications, environmental monitoring, remote outlet control and much more. Protection is one of the most valuable functions of power management. This involves the ability to maximize uptime through sophisticated power management controls and to perform an orderly, graceful shutdown of applications, operating systems and ultimately hardware during extended power outages, in even complex network environments. This also includes the ability to restart equipment in an orderly fashion when power returns.
  • From the building service entrance to the individual server, Eaton Power Quality has the hardware, software, and services that make up the power infrastructure of the data center. We call it the PowerChain. From the modest single-server, small / medium business applications, to enterprise-class data center hardware, Eaton Power Quality has a right-sized solution for the opportunity. Let’s take a look at the portfolio in brief.

    9. 9. 9 9© 2010 Eaton Corporation. All rights reserved. Let’s review: A UPS is… An uninterruptible power system (UPS) is defined as a backup power system used to ensure uninterrupted power for various electronic devices. Uninterrupted power may be achieved in the following ways: • Provides backup power when utility power fails • Either long enough for critical equipment to shut down sequentially, ensuring no data is lost, or • Long enough to operate required loads before a generator comes online • Provides clean and regulated power to electronic devices
    10. 10. 10 10© 2010 Eaton Corporation. All rights reserved. The impact of power outages What challenges do YOU see with UPSs?

    12. 12. 12 12© 2010 Eaton Corporation. All rights reserved. They… • Waste valuable space: Battery backup solutions should not take up valuable space that is needed for server and storage capacity. • Drive up energy costs & generate heat: Inefficient UPS solutions waste as much as 25%+ of the electricity flowing through them. Not only does this cost you in energy consumption, but also it generates heat. • Require too much maintenance: Some battery backup solutions require frequent battery replacements or are just poor quality and unreliable. • Are hard to monitor and manage: The monitoring and management software is expensive and also difficult to install, use and get valuable information from. • Don’t scale to support growth: Many battery backup solutions are not designed to scale to support your growing requirement. This leads to wasted money from buying more than what is needed or having to throw out and replace. Legacy backup power solutions are not efficient
