  14. 14. The Legend of the Cherokee RoseThere is a story to the Trail Of Tears, it is called"The Legend of the Cherokee Rose." Along the wayof the Trail Of Tears the woman were becomingweak and had thoughts that they couldnt takecare of their children. They would cry and cry, themen were afraid they too would lose their strengthand would not be able to care for their childrenand family. One night the men went and asked theCreator to help the women and take their pain. Thenext day the people walked along the places wherethe women had cried and saw beautiful flowersblooming out. The flowers had become a symbol ofthe Cherokees sufferings, it was also said to be agift from the Creator. The seven leaves on eachstem represent the seven Cherokee clans thatmade way, the gold in the center of the flowerrepresent the gold taken from the Cherokee lands,and the white petals represent the Mothers tears.
