International Relations Between India And Pakistan - Presentation Transcript

In 1947 India was split  1947 into two countries – India and Pakistan – by the British This was so that India  could be made up of Hindus and Pakistan of Muslims However this caused  rioting and it is estimated that about half a million people were killed in the dispute Still some territories  are fought over, namely Kashmir. It has been the source of war.
  4. PAKISTAN INDIA Pakistan’s main According to India the   argument was that Maharaja of Kashmir Kashmir population pledged allegiance to was mainly made up of India and not Pakistan Muslims and so should have been part of Pakistan
  5. Pakistan fell into Civil War in  both West Pakistan and East. East Pakistan wanted autonomy  Because of fighting millions fled  to India from East Pakistan India fought on behalf of East  Pakistan India took 90000 prisoners of war  when Pakistan surrendered East Pakistan gained  independence and became known as Bangladesh
  6. In the 1980s there was The Soviets sided   the cold war between with India the USA and the Soviet Union The US sided with  They went through Afghanistan and  India, Pakistan and Pakistan Afghanistan at one stage Because of this  International relations never improved
  7. The world began to get worried in 1998.  Both India and Pakistan were developing  nuclear weapons. Tensions between India and Pakistan had  increased. America and Japan froze loans for aid to both  India and Pakistan. They stopped the bomb testing in early 1999 
  8. International Relations between India and  Pakistan can improve heavily. The partition occurred because of religion  But now there are many Muslims, Hindus and  Catholics in both countries However the International Relations are not  improving as much as they can. But why?
  9. It has been discovered However this has   that the terrorists in dampened the 26/11 were all trained relations between the in a Pakistani camp two neighbouring countries. They thought that  they could kill English and Americans by hitting the tourist attractions in Mumbai
