Seeking God's Approval - Presentation Transcript

    1. Gaining approval from God. Gal. 1:10 Seeking God’s Approval
    2. Introduction
      • Many often seek approval from their peers:
        • It is comforting to know that others agree with you.
        • Such approval is sought by keenly observing the reaction of another:
          • Agreeing words.
          • A nod (or other body language) affirming what you believe or practice.
    3. Introduction
      • When approval is gained: a person has a sense of “rightness” in what he believes and practices.
      • Being approved before man, however, means nothing unless he is first approved before God.
      • This lesson is aimed at challenging you to see where you seek your approval.
    4. Human Approval
      • It is natural for people to seek approval from others.
        • Young children seek their parents’ approval.
        • Older children seek approval from their peers.
        • Young parents seek approval from other parents that have “been there and done that.”
        • Older – and wiser – adults will seek approval from those they (from their experience) deem to be wise in their eyes.
    5. Human Approval
      • Approval from others can also provide a false sense of “right.”
        • Children and adolescents, at times, do things that are approved by the “wrong crowd.”
        • Young adults who sought advice from those who “been there and done that” are often given faulty advice.
        • Older/wiser individuals, although they seek someone for wise counsel, at times have been provided with faulty information.
    6. Human Approval
      • Thus, it is not in man to direct his own steps; or be directed by way of approval of another man. Jer. 10:23
        • Homosexuality. Rom. 1:27
        • Marriage, divorce, remarriage. Matt. 19:9
        • Baptism for the remission of sins. Acts 2:38
    7. Gaining and Maintaining God’s approval
      • Paramount to our soul is the approval that comes from God. 2 Cor. 10:18
        • Our Lord is the best example who had God’s approval. Acts 2:22
        • Such was the case for Apelles. Rom. 16:10
        • This was the exhortation by the apostle Paul to Christians at Thessalonica. 1 Thess. 4:1
    8. Gaining and Maintaining God’s approval
      • To have God’s approval
        • We must seek His pleasure by faith. Heb. 11:6
        • Make His will becomes ours. Gal. 2:20
        • This may not necessarily fall in line with what other Christians believe. cp. Gal. 1:10
        • Only then will you desire to approve things that are excellent. Phil. 1:10
    9. Conclusion
      • As you continue through life you will continue to receive approval from man.
      • Know that ultimately, God’s is the only approval you need for eternal life.
