Purpose, Destiny, Responsibility - Presentation Transcript

    1. Purpose, Destiny, Responsibility Making our lives more meaningful to the Lord
    2. Introduction
      • We live in a culture and era that is so filled with busy lives that we have lost sight of what to be busy at doing.
        • More busy at work than the work of the Lord.
        • More busy at personal reading than the word of God.
        • More busy entertaining ourselves than hospitably serving others.
    3. Introduction
      • When comparing our lives with God’s standard we often fall short as many live disproportionately for this world rather than the next.
        • We need to live with purpose…for the glory of God.
        • We need to live with the destiny of heaven before our eyes.
        • We need to live with responsibility (faith) to fulfill God’s purpose and our destiny.
    4. Purpose – Glorify God
      • The whole of man is to “fear God and keep His commandments.” Ecc. 12:13
        • In this fashion we live to please and glorify Him. Psa. 86:9-12; Rev. 15:4
        • Ideally, every breath, thought, speech, and action should be to His glory.
        • But, because we’re made of flesh and live in the flesh, there is a constant battle between it and the spirit. Gal. 5:17
    5. Purpose – Glorify God
      • Our prayer for this year is for all of God’s children to live each day with the purpose of glorifying the name of our God.
        • To glorify our God in the spread of His word: to family, neighbors, co-workers, strangers.
        • To glorify our God in benevolence toward to all people, especially the household of faith.
        • To glorify our God in our bodies, living a life of purity before Him.
    6. Destiny – Heaven
      • While we live to praise the name of our God, faithful Christians long to live with Him. Heb. 12:1-2
        • Our destiny is NOT retirement here on earth, but a restful home in heaven.
        • Our walk/work for the Lord must continue past the days of our vocational retirement.
    7. Destiny – Heaven
      • Our prayer this year is for all of God’s children to live with their destiny in mind.
        • That we walk as pilgrims on earth, not as those who live as if this world is our home.
        • That we labor and toil in the heavenly work we have.
        • That we journey till we enter the true Promise Land – heaven.
    8. Responsibility – Living Out Your Faith
      • The culmination of living with purpose and destiny is our responsibility toward God and each other.
        • We can talk about doing great things in and for the kingdom of our Lord, but do little to nothing for most of the year.
        • We need to be busy in each others’ lives (Jas. 2:16ff) and reach out to the lost (Lk. 19:10).
    9. Responsibility – Living Out Your Faith
      • Our prayer this year is for all of God’s children to live responsibly before our God and man. Matt. 22:37-40
        • That we serve our God with fear and trembling.
        • That we serve our fellow man (physically and spiritually) as unto the Lord.
    10. Conclusion
      • Our lives need to be filled daily with purpose, with destiny, and responsibility.
      • Pray with earnest intent to live as a true Christian.
