Brainwashed with Jesus - Presentation Transcript

    1.
    2. Introduction
      • The term “brainwash” typically scares or repulses people.
        • Many will deny it.
        • Christians often want to steer clear from being associated with it.
    3. Introduction
      • In this lesson we look at a biblical concept of “brainwashing.”
        • How this world is brainwashed each day by being conformed to its doctrines.
        • How God’s people are to be brainwashed by having their minds renewed each day through His word.
      • Everyone in this world – by Merriam Webster’s definition – is brainwashed. [1]
        • Strict definition: “A forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas.”
        • Secondary definition: “Persuasion by propaganda or salesmanship.”
        • [1] http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/brainwash
    4. Everyone Is Brainwashed
      • Such is true based upon Merriam Webster’s definition.
      • The question is: whose “propaganda” will you be persuaded by?
        • For the worldly… it is the ever changing wisdom of this world.
        • For Christians… it is the wisdom of God through Jesus Christ.
    5. Brainwashed By The World
      • Laws/regulations/education/advertisements, etc. brings forth change in man’s changing standards.
        • Societal views today regarding smoking are in complete contrast with those of 50 years ago.
        • Many teenagers – in the name of being their “own person” – adopted the punk or gothic looks; tattoos, or various body piercings.
    6. Brainwashed By The World
      • In other words, the worldly are brainwashed with its own set of mind altering doctrines.
        • It is propaganda – right or wrong according to the standard by which we live – that persuades a society to think differently than it had previously.
        • So, in the loose sense of the word, we are all brainwashed one way or another, what should we believe?
      • The first part of the answer: Do not be conformed to this world. Rom. 12:2a
    7. Brainwashed By Jesus Christ
      • Be Transformed By The Renewing Of Your Mind. Rom. 12:2b
        • Our change starts from within (the heart/mind).
        • This person goes from a life of the flesh to that of the Spirit. Gal. 5:16-24
        • This is a person whose mind has been persuaded to think in complete contrast to that of the world. Cp. Col. 2:4-10
    8. Brainwashed By Jesus Christ
      • Prove what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom. 12:2c
        • Avoid – even guard against – worldly wisdom that will cause you to stray from the faith. 1 Tim. 6:20-21; 2 Tim. 2:15-19
        • Let the word of God dwell richly within your life. Col. 3:16
    9. Conclusion
      • The people of this world will never change until they accept the life-changing doctrine of Jesus Christ.
      • Such a profound change can only come to those who are “washed” in the blood of Jesus and have their minds “renewed” each day the words of Jesus.
