Factors you may not have considered before you buy a blu-ray player
1. Factors you may not have considered before you buy a blu-
ray player
One word of advice. You should choose a player that works best with your "present" viewing
situation, unless, you are seriously planning on "upgrading" to a newer TV, then you'll want to
get a player that offers the most "compatibility" with all the connections on your new TV.
Oh boy, what's this going to cost me?
The price for one of these players these days isn't all that bad. It's possible to find a player
under a $100. But realize, features available and the manufacturer will have an effect on the
price. More feature rich, expect a higher price.
However, one thing to keep in mind. Although a DVD player maybe be cheaper, you can still
play all those same DVDs on a Blu-ray player. This is nice to know, because as this kind of
player becomes more and more popular, more Blu-ray discs will replace your DVDs. You'll
be sold on the quality of both the sound and the picture. Also, for a growing number of Blu-
ray discs titles, you'll discover the price difference with a regular DVD maybe only a dollar in
difference.
One more thing. You should know that DVD players can't play Blu-ray. Just making sure.
Talking about DVDs, will they become obsolete?
In a word, no.
At least not now or in the near future. DVDs still make up the largest selection of movies.
However, as more folks start getting their hands on a big flat screen HDTV, there will be
more folks getting a Blu-ray to enjoy the amazing picture and sound quality.
What about game devices?
This could be a little tricky. Here's why.
If you already have a game player, double-check to see if it has Blu-ray playing capability. If it
does, great. But maybe not so great. You see, the game player may "only" be able to play
Blu-ray formatted games, not Blu-ray movie discs.
If you're sure that your game player is DVD only, than the choice is easy. You need to shop
around and look for a Blu-ray player that can play both games and movies. I'm assuming you
do want to watch better quality movies. If you feel that you're the kind of person who would
prefer to spend more time playing video games than watching TV, then by all means, get the
player that just supports gaming.
2. One reason to hang on to your old DVD player
You're just not ready yet. Maybe the price is still to high, especially for the features you want
in a keep#Factors you may not have considered before you buy a blu-ray player. And of
course, prices for DVD players have come down making them very affordable compared to a
Blu-ray player.
You still have an old TV. If that's the case, you are better off with a regular DVD player.
You're actually in a good spot. With a little more passing of time, prices of those feature-rich
players will fall; prices of those HDTV's will fall. You could actually save yourself some
money and get a better deal by waiting for when you can afford the TV and Blu-ray you want.
