  • 24. Our arrival in Eindhoven was strange. It was Sunday, and everything was silent. Streets were empty and shops and restaurants closed.
  • 25. Because I’m originally from Algiers I did not have a visa yet. No sofi-number. I had money but no bank account. And no permit to stay in the Netherlands. It would take up to six month plus six more to get things arranged.
  • 26. City life suffers from it’s opening hours; 10.00 to 18.00, that’s not the ‘living in the city’-feeling for me.

  • 28. The kitchen is open until 19.30 hrs.
  • 29. Everybody speaks English, but not everything is in English.

  • 32. The housing experience was awful. We don’t know if we get the deposit back. It is a totally unfair business.

  • 33. Nobody tells you how it works. They don’t think along with me, like selling me a day ticket in the bus, instead they let me pay 3 Euro’s, for a 5 minute bus drive.
  • 34. We lack coincidental meetings, to meet new people. Meeting people and making friends whether they are Dutch or English or French is really important to us.

  • 37. Eindhoven is a very exciting place, where a lot is happening. But is not something you notice at the surface. You really have to look under it.
  • 38. The blob is the first sign of contemporary architecture. For us the Evoluon is just old modern architecture. Even the architecture of the high tech campus and TU/e is yesterdays and not tomorrow’s architecture.
  • 39. At organized events you can experience the creativity.
    In Autumn there is an overkill of culture events

  • 42. We very much like the scientific atmosphere, and we love to recognize it in the city.
  • 43. Everybody is surrounded by technology in their homes. In the city it becomes likewise when we start using the city-pass to do things; park your bike; dump your garbage under the ground. That is high-tech.

  • 50. Yes, the parks, like city park opposite van Abbe, Genneper parken and Philips parks we go, and we love the ‘kinderboerderij’ in Veldhoven. But we’re not going to the forest. That is what the Dutch like.
  • 51. I´m a city girl. I never go to the Eindhoven Countryside. Sure I like the parks, but that is enough.
  • 52. The true treasure is the meditative spaces around Eindhoven; the paddocks and heather fields. Those are great places for deep thinking
  • 53. We live in a very nice peaceful place; calm, green, convenient for everyday life with a small child. But now our son is growing up and the earlier positive aspects become boring.

  • 59. Brainport is like city branding. It’s very vaguely appearing in the city. Personally I feel extremely outside Brainport, while I should play a role in it.
