How does your media product represent particular social groups? - Presentation Transcript

    1. HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
    2. DOMINANT REPRESENTATION The immediate dominant representation of  teenagers has connotations of; Troublesome   Criminal  Drugs  Alcohol  Un-controllable Average teenage connotations
    3. MY REPRESENTATION Although the music genre of my magazine has a  dominant representation of teens as dance music usually involves drinking and following connotations of the teen as on the previous slide, I have given more of an alternate representation in the way I have done the photography to have different connotations.
    4. ALTERNATIVE REPRESENTATION Another magazine with My Magazine teenage audience
    5. MY MAGAZINE In these two images my magazine has an  alternative representation as it connotes; Fun   Dancing  High fashion Whereas the other magazine has a dominant  representation as it connotes; Un-classy  Sexuality  Sexual availability 
    6. GENDER My magazine is aimed to appeal to 18-25 year old  females.  The female target audience would; Enjoy socialising and partying with friends   Like group holidays to party areas such as Ibiza  Shop at shops such as; TopShop, River Island and New Look  Buy clothes and alcohol more than food  Live with parents or rent the accommodation they are living in  Only go on holiday to countries where they can get a tan  Celebrate a birthday lasting a week going out clubbing every night  Don’t like working so have a part time job.  Living off a loan
    7. SOCIO-ECONOMIC CLASS Materialists; as they do not pay for the majority of  what they are doing if they are students they will have a student loan so will pay later but have what they want now.  Hedonists; as they are enjoying life and don’t want to be serious as they are going out clubbing lots.  Post-Modernists; to be, to have, to play. They are enjoying their youth before they start jobs and have to grow up themselves to succeed.
    8. JICNARS SCALE On the jicnars scale my audience would be ranging  from C2 to E. C2: ‘Skilled manual workers’   D: ‘Semi and unskilled manual workers’  E: ‘Lowest grade workers’ I had to make the magazine suitably priced for the age range as they will not have as much parent support as youth and do not have the income of adulthood therefore to ensure my magazines best selling the price was one which they are able to afford from their part-time/ lower paid jobs.
    9.
